The Rich Center for Autism
Description
The Rich Center currently serves 68 children diagnosed with autism. Their education, therapy, and support is provided year round at no cost to their family Autism affects 1 in 88 children. Although, according to a recent CDC survey, it is believed this number is truly 1 in 50 school aged children.
The Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism is an externally funded unit of Youngstown State University. Our mission is to improve the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families through the creation, use, and enhancement of innovative and educational programs specifically designed to assure the attainment of a life of dignity and to enhance the individuals’ opportunity to achieve his or her full potential.
Autism is a developmental disability that causes significant social, communication and behavioral problems. Problems with speech, communication, and social interaction are common. Research shows there are effective techniques and therapies to improve the lives, education, and independence for those with autism. Early detection, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, such as those offered at The Rich Center, are the best ways to ensure success for these children.
The Rich Center currently serves 67 children diagnosed with autism. They range in age from 2.5-17 years of age. Their education, therapy, and support is provided at no cost to their families thanks to state funding, grants, individual and corporate donors, and fundraising events.
