Jumping into Wednesday like
Athlete spotlight of the month Name: Allison Age: 44 Occupation: Executive Assistant at Orange County Transportation Authority Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Inversion? Completing the 2018 Open and having the motivation to get 18.4 done at another box while on vacation. How did you find CFI? I had been trying out different workouts/gyms when I saw a post on Facebook from someone asking about the best local gyms in Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda. There were several responses about CFI and then I checked out the website. It took me about six months to actually reach out and try a class. I was terrified of CrossFit but was looking for something to push me and motivate me more. I thought I would just contact CFI and then in a couple weeks get in to try a class, but when I called up Garrett he said I could come in that day. I signed up that night. Why do you train? Just to be able to participate in life. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic several years ago and was tired and run down all the time. I want to be able to be present for my son and my family. Doing CrossFit helps me keep things in my life in check. The WODs are always tough and I often think I won’t get through it but then I realize it’s not the hardest thing I’ve ever done and it’s just another hurdle to get over. What is your favorite moment so far at CFI? Each time I can get a new skill in or PR a movement. I can now do box jumps at 18”, jump over the bar when doing burpees, moved to a single band for pull-ups, can get into a handstand, and can stand up on the rope. All about baby steps and moving forward. What is your daily motivation to work out? It’s really the other members and the coaches. It’s nice to go in and know that others are going to suffer through the workout with me. I’m almost always the last person to finish the WOD but everyone always stays and encourages me to keep going and push through to the end. Favorite and least favorite movements? Favorite movement = Back squat and deadlift (all about the booty!) Least favorite movement = Overhead squat What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter? The only person you’re competing with is yourself. Go at your own pace, keep moving, and know that it’s ok if you’re the last one to finish the WOD because you still got a workout in and you’ll improve each day. One song that gets you amped up during a WOD? I don’t know. I follow a DJ on Instagram and usually listen to his house/techno mixes on my way to class. But I generally zone the music out while in class and just try to focus on what I’m doing and not lose count of reps. Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know. I don’t like avocado.
We will be closed this Sunday for the holiday
