The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art offers numerous ways to experience the art of our time.  The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) is a creative leader of the arts in the Southeast, a museum boldly giving artists of the region a platform for visibility while connecting local communities with the international world of contemporary art. Located at 750 Marguerite Drive, the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday. For hours, please visit www.secca.org. SECCA is an affiliate of the North Carolina Museum of Art, a division of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. SECCA receives operational funding from The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Additional funding is provided by the James G. Hanes Memorial Fund and private donations.

Stop by SECCA and see our current exhibitions, including paintings by Winston-Salem artist Marianne DiNapoli-Mylet and furniture-based sculptures by 15 regional contemporary artists. After you’re finished exploring the galleries, step outside and enjoy our nature trails and grounds.

Today at 1:00 pm we will be holding a guided tour of Furnished exploring the different choices artist make. From a ceramic chair that looks like it was grown in a forest to sleek furniture made with boat-building techniques, all of the artists in Furnished have a unique approach and use different materials in the creation of their artwork. This tour is open everyone and starts in the Overlook Gallery.

Here is a sneak preview of work by Winston-Salem-based painter Jessica Singerman, the next artist in our Southern Idiom sales series. Her paintings capture the pastoral landscapes found throughout the region, including Pilot Mountain State Park. Singerman's exhibition opens on September 19.

Surround yourself with art and experience the healing benefits of yoga, all from the comfort of a chair. In conjunction with our current exhibition, Furnished, we have partnered with local yoga instructor Sarah Thompson to offer a series of seated yoga classes in the galleries. A pioneer of video art, peter campus has been creating interactive experiences and engaging installations since 1971. He started out repurposing closed circuit camera systems and he has continued to experiment with the evolution of video and camera technology. On September 6 we will be opening peter campus: video ergo sum, an exhibition presenting his varied works. Related exhibitions will be on display at the Hanes Gallery and the Reynolda House Museum of American Art.

Several of the artists in Furnished make use of deconstructed and broken furniture in their artwork. #asheville based artist Jose Pablo Barreda breaks furniture down and then recombines the pieces to make a variety of different animals. Come see more of his works, and works by 14 other artists who use furniture as part of their artistic practice.

On September 6 we will be opening peter campus: video ergo sum, an exhibition exploring the work of peter campus, a pioneer of video art whose engaging installations and interactive experiences have been leading viewers on journeys of self-discovery since the early 1970s. Related exhibitions are on display at the Hanes Gallery at Wake Forest University and Reynolda House Museum of American Art.
