Trainer Tip Tuesday from Jackie Goyette - Portion Control Part IV This month, the trainers have highlighted a specific topic in our Trainer Tip Tuesdays. Portion control can be an obstacle for many of us when beginning and continuing our healthy lifestyles. For myself and my clients, I like to keep it simple. Here are my tips. Slow Down...we are always in a hurry it seems. Try eating slower making sure those hunger signals have time to process when you are actually full. Drink Up....have an 8-ounce glass of water with each meal and sip throughout the day. Accurate Portion Sizes....get out those measuring cups. Check the label. Have Your Treats....in moderation. Don't deprive yourself, control yourself. Eat Smart When Dining Out....prepare ahead of time. Check out the menu before you get there.

Meet Samijo McClatchey. Hometown: Winona, MN Qualifications: ISSA Elite1 Trainer – Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutritionist, Specialist in Fitness Nutrition, Certified Exercise Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach Favorite part about training: Building relationships with my clients and being able to have a part in their health and fitness journey. Having a client put their trust in you to help them is extremely humbling! How you got into training: I grew up with 2 older brothers who were both athletic. Being the only girl and the youngest, I always felt the need to try and keep up with them. Once they got into weight lifting, I did too. I saw how I changed not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. My hobby turned into a passion and my passion turned into an extremely rewarding career. Favorite aspect of the Y: They Y is like a little community of its own and it’s always growing. I love being able to meet new people every time I work. I’ve met some amazing people. I always get a kick out of all the Pickle Ball players and “Noon Ball” guys. They’re super fun! How you apply the Y's mission to your own life: I believe in taking a holistic approach to all of my training by focusing on exercise, nutrition, positive thinking, and restoration while making lifestyle changes that will help build a healthy spirit, mind, and body. More about Samijo/Fun Fact: I grew up and the Y and I met my husband here! I always had a dream of being an employee at a YMCA! I never thought I would be where I am today with a family of my own growing up at the Y just like I did. Hobbies: I like to lift heavy things! Running with my husband in 5k’s, rollerblading, biking, drawing, painting, reading, and spending time my two little girls.

After seeing our kids have such a good time at the YMCA Kids Corner, we knew the best thing we could do for them is to enroll them in the YMCA full-time child care. The staff answered many of our questions and were so pleasant and inviting during the process. Our kids wake up every morning excited to get to the YMCA and most days do not want to leave when we come pick them up. The counselors make everyday fun and exciting for them while still making sure they are safe and well behaved. The counselors demonstrate a strong sense of professionalism and dedication; you can tell they really enjoy being there every day. When they say your kids are going to have the best summer ever, it really is true. – Camie & Erich Black Click the link below to check out the Fall 2017 Program Guide and get up to date information on the programming that Camie & Erich have found rewarding for their kids to participate in. http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/197b6a_8ee5915698514194b40f73b63a22af49.pdf
