April 1st, 2017 Hey there North South Studios clients and fans. I have a big announcement (the biggest) to happily pass on to you today. Today marks the day I first looked at purchasing the building at 26 N. South Street... and is also the day I choose, exactly 5 years later, to let everyone know what I have to say. About 11 months ago, I sustained a back injury that is worse than any pain I have ever experienced. It has caused a lot of compromises in comfort in an effort to continue at my craft, and the amount of work I have missed is unacceptable to me. The problem is in the lumbar, from 20 years of leaning to reach clients in less-than-stellar posture and plenty of construction and labor work before that. After receiving chiropractic "treatment", it got worse and developed into sciatica. Most of my good clients know I have recently received 3 epidural steroidal injections in my spine, two of which were somewhat effective. To add to the problem, my lower back and hips have developed arthritis badly. When I traveled this January, I experienced 100% pain relief (and sinus relief) during my time in the elevation of mountains, less rain and snow, and warmer temperatures. It leads me to believe that if my medical treatment failed (and seems to have) that I can escape the pain in my lower back, hips, and leg in different climes. I was riding horses and hiking, not trying to unhitch my back to get out of bed every morning. The announcement, thus, is that by June 30th or before, we will be closing the doors at North South Studios for good. Starting May 1st, as well, I will not be accepting new clients or starting huge multi-session work.. call it "semi-retirement".. I plan to continue my work at the shop tattooing until it closes at the end of June, but will proceed to do so by appointment only after the beginning of May. After June, I'm hitting the road west to adventure yet unknown. ("I'm a road-runner, baby..") I cannot overstate how wonderful my clients have been to me. Not only have you supported me financially, but many friendships have been bonded in the last five years with great people I could not have been happier to meet. I am proud of what I have accomplished over the last five years, and pleased that the terms in which I say goodbye are my own and not the will of anyone else, or financial insecurity. I did great here. For the last (almost) 5 years. When looking back over the time North South Studios, I am proudest of my discriminating clients, who chose to collaborate with me for their design ideas, getting something completely custom instead of following trends or getting flash. I am also proud of our 5/5* rating on F.B. It was the people who have actually received services here who have N.S.S. rated a perfect 5 out of 5, that says more to me than anything. You being happy means I did my job right, and that has never been anything but my main goal here. The building is going on the market, realtor and other information will be posted soon enough. I am 100% not looking to deal with a private buyer, NOR Rent or Land Contract for the building, so please do not call the shop or post here to inquire, a realtor will be handling the sale. Likewise, much of our art supply and body jewelry stock is going to private parties, so beyond fine art objects, tattooing will be the only other product available until we close. The shop WILL be open for the next 3 months. Nothing else has changed, all appointments require deposits, and it is open and available for walk ins Tues-Saturday at 1 pm until May 1st, at which time we will switch to appointment based business only. More information will follow as a new adventure gets closer to starting. -Ted The guy at North South Studios. ;)

To bring levity to those "must have today" crisis that always pop up this time of year. Take it to heart, walk ins are a rare convenience until about May. Pardon Rick's French, but we all know how he is under stress. Deposits for appointments are taken in person or by phone.
Notice- with a few small holes in the schedule, we are busy and already booking 2 weeks out. We are taking deposits for all appointments either by phone or in person only. We apologize, same day service and walk-ins are generally hard to get until about May. This is our busy season, thank you for understanding.
What a great vacation. Shop will re-open again Wednesday, January 18th at 2pm. Stay tuned for expanded business hours, with the approach of tax season we would like to remind everyone that tattoo appointments require a deposit, and the books fill up rather quick once February gets here. (Often before even that.) See you at the shop!

This article from the bicentennial News Journal from 40 years ago (and is scarcely younger than me.) Here is more history on 26 North South Street, the 140+ year old shop that houses NSS. Thanks to Danny Williams for the great find at the auction a few years back, these old photos and drawing really bring out the history of the property.
We have a little remodeling going on again, painting and starting floor refinishing. We will be closed Wednesday and Thursday (Dec 28 and 29) and Re-open on Friday. The shop phone is available still for scheduling appointments after this small remodel is over.
We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas full of joy and festivities. We have weird hours coming in the next 3 weeks, but let's just start with the New Year holiday. We will be open Saturday, 12-31 (New Year's Eve) 1pm until 7pm. More to come!
Hey everybody, we had a last minute cancellation and have some time available today. Call the shop (937)725-0037 and we will get you set up.
