The OFFICIAL Wickford Art Festival page! Produced by the Wickford Art Association since 1962. The Wickford Art Association (WAA) will be accepting applications from fine art artists for the 53rd Wickford Art Festival to be held on July 11 and 12, 2015 in Wickford Village, RI. Applications may be downloaded after January 2015 at www.wickfordart.org and must be postmarked by April 1, 2015 for consideration.
The 53rd Wickford Art Festival takes place in coastal Wickford Village. Up to 250 artists from all over the country display their fine art amongst historic homes, lovely shops and quaint streets. Handicap accessible and family-friendly, this festival draws art lovers from all over New England with crowds up to 75,000 attending yearly.
Rhode Island is the first state in the nation to go tax-free on the sale of fine art. This is great news for Wickford Art Festival artists who will not have to worry about submitting sales tax on original or limited edition artwork sold at the Festival. Tax-free exemption is available to RI and out of state artists but certain restrictions apply.
Produced by the Wickford Art Association, the 53rd Wickford Art Festival is one of the longest running outdoor fine arts festivals in New England. The festival cumulates with the Annual Scholarship Raffle of Fine Art held on Sunday afternoon. Proceeds benefit the WAA Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to RI high school seniors attending an art college.
Wickford Art Association, a 501c3 non-profit, was founded in 1962 to educate its membership, the local community and general public and to promote the arts in the community. The WAA Gallery, located next to the North Kingstown Town Beach, hosts art exhibits, classes, poetry readings, a Photo Arts Group, open studios, business gatherings and more throughout the year. I know I have a lot of amazing artist friends on my FB and in my life. I also am aware of the reputation of the Wickford Art Festival, and how many artists feel that they wouldn't be able to get in the festival as an artist. I just want to say, that isn't necessarily true. The Wickford Art Festival RI does not accept crafts, but it does accept many forms of art. It just can't be useable or wearable, and must be ready to sell. So if its a piece that needs framing to be complete and wall ready, please do that. If its a canvas, it must have finished edges, no visible staples, and at least an inch and a half thick. For sculpture, if it can be used as a bowl, it doesn't pass the "useable" rule. If its jewelry, it doesn't pass the "wearable" rule. So if you have work that you would like to sell, or you would like to get your name out there as an artist, reach out to me, and I will gladly walk you through the application and jury process.
