The Westfield Historical Society, “WHS”, headquartered in the Reeve House on Mountain  Avenue, serves as  "A Custodian of Westfield's History."  Built in 1870, this magnificent structure was recently restored and rehabilitated by the Westfield Historical Society. Deeded to the town of Westfield in 1986, the Reeve Brothers gave the house and 1.62 acre property to Westfield on the condition that Edgar Reeve could remain in the home until he died. Edgar passed away December 2001 and the Westfield Historical Society began its work to acquire the property via a 99-year lease. In 2005 the Westfield Historical Society successfully obtained a National Register of Historic Places Nomination and developed a Preservation Plan and Feasibility Study with the assistance of Margaret Westfield of Westfield Architects. With generous donations of time and money by donors and members, a multi-year fundraising campaign took place allowing the restoration to occur. The next fundraising campaign will be to build a state-of-the-art archive building with handicapped accessibility to the Reeve House.
