Design and the Reliability Factor
New SAE International Book Explores How Designing for Reliability Minimizes Potential Automotive Network and Communications Faults WARRENDALE, Pa. (January 22, 2016) – SAE International announces its new book, Design and the Reliability Factor available now on the SAE International website. Sophisticated infotainment systems, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring are increasingly common in cars today. The proliferation of automotive electronics and other “smart” features has increased the market for automotive semiconductor devices and the number of sensors per vehicle. Yet, more chips and greater functionality translate to further networking/communications activity within the car, and that raises the prospect of potentially serious errors. How to minimize them by design is the focus of this book, which contains seven of SAE International’s handpicked technical papers, covering: • A way to calculate the reliability of priority-driven, real-time components with respect to timing failures, resulting in a realistic estimate of each component’s reliability • A delayed-decision cycle detection method that can detect and prevent spoofing attacks with high accuracy • An AUTOSAR-compliant automotive platform for meeting reliability and timing constraints • An eight-point process for determining the cause of failures with real-world cases in which the process was used • The use of accelerated reliability and durability testing technology for better performance estimation • How to achieve reliable sensor-fusion despite system complexity and inconsistency • How to improve domain controller availability while maintaining functional safety in mixed-criticality automotive safety systems The book is edited by John Day. Book details: - Published By: SAE International - Binding: Softbound - Product Code: PT-174 - ISBN: 978-0-7680-8157-2 - Price: $75.00 - SAE International Members save up to 20% off list price. SAE International Book Explores Root Causes of Aerospace Technical and Business Challenges WARRENDALE, Pa. (Jan. 8, 2016) – SAE International announces publication of its book, No Fault Found: The Search for the Root Cause. Today, people are strongly dependent on the correct functioning of technical systems. Disruptions due to degradation or anomalous behavior can negatively impact safety, operations, and brand name, reducing the profitability of all elements of the value chain. This can be tolerated if the link between cause and effect is understood and remedied. Anomalous behavior, which indicates systems or subsystems not acting in accordance with design intent, is a much more serious problem. It includes unwanted system responses and faults whose root cause can’t be properly diagnosed, leading to costly, and sometimes unnecessary, component replacements. Written by four experts in this field, No Fault Found: The Search for the Root Cause was developed to propose solutions to this technical and business challenge, which has become less and less acceptable to the commercial aviation industry globally. Bringing together the areas of systems engineering and quality management, this unique book lists relevant terminology for consistent reporting, addresses the importance of “soft” human factors, and deals with aspects of availability and safety, operating policies, tools, diagnostic design, and the use of the right technology. - Published By: SAE International - Binding: Hardbound - Product Code: R-441 - ISBN: 978-0-7680-8122-0 - Price: $95.00 - SAE International Members save up to 20% off list price.
