Dear Driving School Partner: Thank you for taking a moment to read this letter. The upcoming vacation week is the busiest time of the year for the Registry, and we anticipate longer-than-usual wait times. We are hoping you are willing to assist us in helping your students by getting the word out that they should go online to fill out applications for their learner’s permit, see what documents they have to bring with them to a Registry Service Center location, and to find out what the wait times are for the various locations. Students who do all this will save themselves time. Please also remind your students that busy days at Registry centers tend to be Fridays and school vacation days. So to save even more time, students should avoid Friday visits to centers and avoid going to a center during school vacation week next week if possible. In addition, RMV centers will be closed on Monday, April 16, as are all Commonwealth of Massachusetts offices, due to the Patriot’s Day holiday. If you want to get in and out of a Registry Service Center location efficiently in the next month, we have some tips for you: • Avoid going into a center during school vacation week the week of April 16 when centers will be crowded with thousands of more people than usual doing transactions. Fridays are also busy, so if possible, avoid going to the RMV on a Friday. In addition, RMV centers will be closed on Monday, April 16, as are all Commonwealth of Massachusetts offices, due to the Patriot’s Day holiday. • Go to MassRMV.com and fill out your application for a learner’s permit online. Bring a copy of the application with you, (or show a copy of the bar code on your mobile device), when you decide to go into a Registry service location. This will save you time. • When you decide what day you want to go into a service location, go online to MassRMV.com to see what the current wait time is for the center you want to visit. This will help you decide what nearby location has the shortest wait times and you can go to that location. Some locations are very busy at lunch or the end of the day, others are not, so it would be smart to check. • Make sure when you are online that you read about what documents you need to bring with you to apply for a learner’s permit. Important information regarding the RMV...

The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced that all RMV services and system access, with the exception of law enforcement, will be unavailable from 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22 until 8 a.m., Monday, March 26 due to the RMV changing over to a new computer system that will allow the RMV to comply with federal and state mandates. During this time period, there will be no motor vehicle inspections available in the state, no RMV online services, all RMV service locations will be closed, and AAA locations will be unable to process RMV services for AAA members.
