WARNING-PLEASE READ There are scammers out there that are making threatening phone calls. They tell the unsuspecting answerer that the IRS is suing them and/or the police are on their way to arrest them for unpaid taxes. Ultimately they are phishing for personal information, such as social security numbers, bank account information, etc. The new thing now is, the scammer tells you your return/refund is being held up and they need to confirm information on your return so to finish processing. Do not give your personal information over the phone. Two Rules: 1. The IRS will never call you. The service always corresponds by mail. 2. The Service will never email you. Again the IRS will always communicate by written notices or letters. Please be cautious and on alert when your personal information is questioned.

It is that time of year again! Just a few important dates to be mindful of..................... 1. By February 1st (since 1/31 falls on a Sunday) your employer is to provide you your Form W-2. Also, most 1099 Form series should be provided to you by this date. 2. With the Affordable Care Act, like last year, if you have your health insurance through HealthCare.Gov you will receive a Form 1095-A. New for the 2015 tax year, if you have health insurance through your employer or other private insurance, you will receive either a 1095-B or 1095-C that details which months you had health insurance and who was covered under the plan. Your tax preparer will be asking to see this form. 3. On Tuesday, January 19th, the IRS will begin accepting individual electronic returns. 4. The filing deadline to submit 2015 tax returns is Monday, April 18, 2016, rather than the traditional April 15 date. Washington, D.C. will celebrate Emancipation Day on that Friday, which pushes the deadline to the following Monday for most of the nation.
