Please join us in our goal of educating the community about responsible pet ownership.

We here at the Pima Animal Care Center are committed to finding loving homes for homeless animals in Pima County. We treat all animals individually, and place them for adoption based on their individual behavior and health, not their breed.

Have you ever wondered how our Animal Protection Officers are able to catch scared dogs? This net is one of the many tools we use to safely handle animals! This net can be used to catch dogs that are on the run. It's a great tool when we're trying to pick up animals to get them treated or get them back home.

URGENT! These dogs need your help! We are looking for adopter, rescuers or fosters to get these pups out of the shelter and into a home! Contact pacc.foster@pima.gov for more info. Max is an older gentleman who unfortunately is not doing well in the shelter. We suspect that he has degenerative myelopathy and has a very difficult time standing or walking. Due to the concerns for his quality of life, he has until 04/19/18 at 7pm to find placement with a rescue or a Hospice foster. Gypsy is a sweet but terrified girl that is needing to get out of the shelter. She is bonded to Max and they find comfort with each other. She has been behaviorally declining in the shelter and is having to her spend her time in isolation along with Max due to them both currently being sick. The shelter would love to keep this bonded pair together if possible. Please let us know if you are able to assist.

ADOPTION TIP: Remember when you adopt a new animal it needs time to acclimate to it's new home! We recommend you give your new pet at least 30 days to get used to it's brand new life.

Have you ever thought about fostering a shelter animal? What are you waiting for? Fostering is a great way to enjoy having an animal in your life without the long-term commitment of pet ownership. And fostering is also a great way to enrich an animal’s life. Right now, there are hundreds of animals at the Pima Animal Care Center, just waiting for someone like you to come along. Animals just like Emerson who would love to be your co-pilot, your wing-man, your walking buddy, your best friend. To learn more, contact Pima Animal Care Center at pacc.foster@pima.gov. To foster this handsome boy, include “Emerson #A622677” in your subject line. Fostering an animal is easy and you’ll feel like a champion. Just do it. #Foster #Adopt #Rescue #FostersSaveLives Thank you Carolyn of Clermont Animal CARE Humane Society Valentin of City of El Paso Department of Animal Services for such wonderful work on Emerson during your Maddie's Fund Medium and Large Adult Dog Foster Apprenticeship at PACC!

Recently, Animal Protection Officer Sanders responded to assist Lucky, whose collar had grown too tight and was cutting into his skin. When Officer Sanders arrived, he was hiding under a trailer and she was unable to reach him, even after the residents of the neighborhood helped her climb under the trailer. Over the next couple of days, the neighborhood banded together to help us catch Lucky and bring him in for medical treatment. As Officer Sanders puts it: "“The once terrified dog, who wanted nothing to do with humans, got up in his kennel this morning, wagged his tail and kissed me all over my face. If it were not for Barney, Debbie, Nancy and Vikki, I have no doubts he would have gotten away and continued suffering until the infection took his life.”" The people in the neighborhood could not have been more grateful for Officer Sanders' help. "Officer Sanders worked tirelessly to attempt to secure the injured dog... She was kind with everyone and her compassion was evident." The people who assisted in catching Lucky are a perfect example of how life saving is a community effort. We would not be able to save as many animals as we do without the help of the people of Pima County, whether that help comes through assisting APOs, donating, fostering, or adopting. Lucky is definitely grateful!
