LIGHTNING STRIKES AT CCCS CCCS was very fortunate to have former members of our own Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team as well as the current Lightning Street Hockey team on campus for 3 clinics yesterday for grades 2 though 7. They transformed our court into a street hockey arena and provided each student with the gift of a hockey stick. It was a morning of great excitement, learning and lots of fun!! Thank you Lightning.

The Bookaneers had to do some super sleuthing at this month's club meeting. The book selection was Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett. First, members received a coded message informing them of the upcoming mystery. On the day of the meeting, members were greeted by a detective who informed them, that just like in the book, a great work of art was stolen. The Mona Lisa! It was up to them to figure out "who dunnit." They read "police interviews," analyzed clues, and finally were able to restore the artwork to its rightful place. They also worked with pentominoes, which played a role in the plot of the book. Hats off to this group whose detective work rivaled that of Sherlock Holmes.

The 7th graders enjoyed a beautiful morning in the estuary at Mote Marine Lab as they collected specimen for observation. Everyone got a little wet but really enjoyed the field work! After drying off, they explored the aquariums, touch tanks, and saw the sharks getting fed. Now these 7th graders have experience to back up the research they are currently conducting in their ecosystems unit.

MEET MK, THE PENGUIN Today 8th grade students were paid a visit by MK, a Penguin from Busch Gardens. Each year, just prior to the Grad Dance, students receive their invitations to the dance in some special way which, in addition to inviting them, reveals the dance theme to them. This year, thanks to one of our 7th grade parents, MK arrived to help with the revealing of the theme which is "Under the Sea." The students especially enjoyed meeting and getting to know MK.

First grade student takes over school as principal of the day! The young principal started off by leading the school at convocation. He held a special meeting with some students to discuss future activities and did various principal related things. He then made a special announcement, and won the hearts of our students by giving them a free dress day next week! We loved our Principal for The Day.
