Train Strikes Debris On Track In Syosset
On Easter Sunday, the members of the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department (SFD) were very busy, handling a total of eight emergency alarms. Our members’ day started with a kitchen fire on the south end of Syosset just before 8 AM, which SFD units extinguished quickly, with assistance from neighboring mutual aid departments. (Photo credits: Kevin Imm) Throughout the beautiful spring day, SFD members took time out from family gatherings to respond to our neighbors’ calls for medical emergencies and carbon monoxide and smoke alarm activations. The day ended with the SFD responding to a transportation incident at the Syosset LIRR station late Sunday evening, where a train struck some debris coming into the station. Thankfully no one was injured, but multiple SFD resources were on the scene and ready to provide assistance. https://patch.com/new-york/syosset/train-strikes-debris-track-syosset If you are interested in helping the Syosset FD serve our community, please contact us here on FB, call our Recruitment hotline at (516) 677-4516 or email us at join@syossetfd.org WE ARE SYOSSET! On Sunday, April 2, members of the Syosset Volunteer Fire Dept's Emergency Medical Co. 6 participated in a multi-department mass casualty drill hosted by Wantagh FD. The simulation was held at the Jones Beach Theater and presented responders with a truck that had lost control and crashed into a crowd of people, injuring over 40 of them. Syosset EMS members worked together with members of 15 other departments to treat and transport the "patients" to the "hospital" (another parking area at the beach). Drills like this are important as they allow us to practice skills, identify potential problems and work together with other responders. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Syosset FD EMS team and helping serve your community, message us here on Facebook or call our Recruitment hotline at (516) 677-4516.
