Our good friend and @crossfit Superwoman @brookeence stopped by yesterday to lift some heavy stuff, walk on her hands, carry some dirty sandbags, and generally just be awesome like she always is. She was also nice enough to talk up our "Jen & Jared" Hero Tribute for USMC Jennifer Harris and US Army Specialist Jared Raymond next Saturday, July 2nd at @crossfittheswamp. Check out the link in our bio. It's going to be a great day! #itmakesence #crossfit #crossfittheswamp #swampscott #jenandjared #hero #tribute #fundraiser #4thofjuly #weekend #freedom #sacrifice #honor

It's always fun when the winner of the @crossfitgames Meridian Region Sara Sigmundsdottir drops by @crossfittheswamp to train. It's awe-inspiring and humbling to see how hard these elite athletes train and how committed they are to winning. The Swamp's back parking lot absolutely sucks for sled pushing. That's a fact. She did 10 down to 1 sets of Bear Complex (135), with 150ft sled push (80) after each round. It was gross. An hour later @sarasigmunds was in a place that few of us are willing to go. She's an animal...and really fun to watch. @crossfit #crossfit #crossfittheswamp #justshowup #jsu #thisshitworks #fulldummy @nike #metcon2 @redlinegr #redlinegear #toetheline @roguefitness #sledpush #bearcomplex #paincave #games #podium #iceland

Happy Memorial Day. Today we honor all of those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. May you rest in peace. At The Swamp today, we pay special tribute to Michael Patrick "Murph" Murphy (May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005), who was a United States Navy SEAL officer. He was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. This workout itself was Michael’s favorite workout to do, which at the time referred to it as “Body Armor”, hence the 20lb vest or body armor as part of the workout prescription. So, every year, CrossFitters synonymously around the world pay special tribute to Lieutenant Murphy by joining together and suffering through this workout. Murphy was known to his friends as "Murph", and he was known as "The Protector" in his high school years. In 8th grade, he protected a special needs child who was being shoved into a locker by a group of boys, this was the only time the principal of the school had called his parents, they couldn't have been prouder. He also protected a homeless man, who was being attacked while collecting cans. He chased away the attackers and helped the man pick up his cans. In 1994, Murphy graduated from Patchogue-Medford High School and left home to attend The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). He graduated from Penn State in 1998, with degrees in both political science and psychology.[1] Murphy was engaged to be married with the ceremony scheduled for November 2005. Murphy was killed June 28, 2005 after exposing himself to enemy fire and knowingly leaving his position of cover to get a clear signal in order to communicate with his headquarters. He provided his unit’s location and requested immediate support for his element and then returned to his position to continue fighting until he died from his wounds.[1] On July 4, 2005, Murphy's remains were found by a group of American soldiers during a combat search and rescue operation and returned to the United States. Nine days later, on July 13, Murphy was buried with full military honors at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York, Section 67, Grave No. 3710,[12] less than 20 miles from his childhood home. The bestselling book Lone Survivor, and the movie Lone Survivor are based on efforts and actions of Lt. Murphy and his comrades. RIP Murph
