Good afternoon Parents, Students and Stakeholders! This is Ms. Lockhart, your proud principal with this week's midweek update! Parents, as you know, there have been nationwide movements since the tragedy in FL. Today, at 10am, many of our students chose to walk out of their classes and gather to honor the victims and show their solidarity. While we did not support this action, we understood their intentions. We ensured a safe environment and allowed the 17 minutes to honor the victims of the FL incident. Your children, our students, handled themselves appropriately and made you proud! We did have one small group of students march through campus after the 17 minute protest, but they dispersed when asked and complied. We appreciate their cooperation and have followed up with the student leader. This week is Public School Week. Every week, we attempt to highlight all of the awesome things happening here at Valley Vista! This week is no different! Yesterday, our students participated in the Miracle Minute. In one minute, our students donated and collected $3571.75 for Special Olympics! This is phenomenal! The state record was shattered! Great job Monsoon! Partnering with the Surprise Police Department, we want to remind you that driving distracted is dangerous. Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system—anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving. Join us in keeping our community safe. Drive Wise Surprise! Parents, this morning, our PAC lot was running smoothly right up until 659, when it backed up momentarily. If you plan your arrival for prior to 7am, you should experience a better start to your day! Again, please do not drop off on the street, or attempt to enter the front lot. Thank you! Have a great evening! GO MONSOON!

Good afternoon Parents, Students and Stakeholders. This is Ms. Lockhart, your proud principal with this week's update! With all of the excitement on campus, we were remiss to celebrate with all of you! As I am sure you have heard, our Girl's Basketball Team repeated as 6A Champions last Wednesday at ASU. Back to Back Championship seasons are rare! We celebrated with the team and coaches with an all-school parade across campus Thursday morning. With the VVHS Fight Song playing over the loud speaker, our Lady Monsoon marched through the center of campus with the trophies in hand! GREAT JOB Girl's Basketball! We are so proud of you! Our Unified Sports Team traveled to Prescott and brought home the State Championship as well! AMAZING! We are so proud of our young people, and our coaching staff! The Valley Vista Varsity Cheer team qualified for the AIA State competition this year and ended up placing fourth in the state. This is an improvement from their sixth place rank last year. From there, the team went on to qualify for the USA National competition. At Nationals in February 2018, Valley made history for the school’s cheer program when they made it past the preliminary competition to the Finals. The Monsoon cheer team brought home the 5th place trophy for their Coed division of 18 teams. After Nationals, Valley’s Cheer program wrapped up their season at the AZ State competition at the Veteran’s Memorial Colosseum March 3rd. The Varsity team won the competition, placing 1st in Division One Coed Varsity Large Show Cheer. Valley’s All Girl Stunt team placed 3rd, and Valley’s Junior Varsity team also placed 3rd in the JV competition. It has been a season full of hard work and success for the Valley Vista cheerleaders. Congratulations! The young ladies on the Valley Vista Pom Line have worked endless hours leading up to the national competition. Pom entered a new category this year, which upped the ante in our competition. We competed against 26 other teams and the competition was fierce. The team gave their best performance of the year and felt blessed to have competed against the best of the best. The Valley Vista dance company (IMPACT team) went to nationals for the first time ever. Our only goal this year was to qualify for nationals and we did that back in December. The moment they took the stage this weekend we were all mesmerized. They were, indeed, impactful and took our breath away as they performed their Breath of Life routine perfectly and the best they ever had up to this point. They are a force to reckon with. Valley Vista Pom and Valley Vista Dance Company, also, competed in the Arizona State Pom and Cheer Tournament on March 3, 2018. They had a phenomenal performances and placed 3rd in the Varsity Large Pom category and 3rd in the Varsity Large Jazz category. These student-athletes have proven that competing nationally builds more than just athleticism, it builds character and an understanding that we can take on whatever life brings our way. These teams have excelled beyond expectations, always representing Valley Vista with integrity, this year. As their coach I couldn’t be more proud of them. It was a great way to conclude our 2017 -2018 season. Parents, an important announcement Regarding Dispensing medication at school: All students need to have written permission signed by a parent/guardian each school year giving them permission to have specific over the counter items that we hold in the Health Office and ONLY give out in the Health Office. [Health History Form] Some student's parent/guardian have NOT filled out the form or have purposely NOT checked the boxes to let their student have anything at school because they do not want them to have any medications. (those can include topical and oral medications.) Teachers can provide students with bandaids in their classrooms, but CANNOT provide first aid creams, burn creams, aloe, Bactin, alcohol wipes, cough drops, or any other over the counter medications etc. Further, students cannot have over the counter medications with them on campus, except in the Health Office. Thanks for ensuring your child is aware of this! Thank you for your continued support of Valley Vista! Have a great evening! GO MONSOON!
