Staunton's emergency communications center has launched a new, state-of-the-art 911 call system, making it one of the most advanced centers in Virginia.

City council passed a resolution last Thursday expressing its opposition to proposed increases in park entrance fees during peak season (June to October). Councilman Jim Harrington explains why it's important that the fee remains as is.

We were honored to welcome leaders from 13 of Virginia’s oldest cities for the annual Virginia First Cities Fall Legislative Board Meeting. Staunton is a member of Virginia First Cities, a coalition of 13 sister cities that advocates for better policies and increased support from the state. Councilman Walt Obenschain and City Manager Steve Owen represent Staunton on the Virginia First Cities board of directors. On Friday, they joined other city leaders to discuss community wealth building and the state’s fiscal and policy outlook. The group also determined what policies they want to push for in the 2018 Virginia General Assembly Session as they relate to education, transportation, public safety, economic development, health and human services, and taxes.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Paving will be underway all day today at Frontier Center. The main entrance near Sheetz and the traffic circle will be closed. The private access road (near the bridge and over the railroad) will be open to provide access to the Frontier Culture Museum and Augusta Woods.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Paving at the entrance of the new Frontier Center development is underway, resulting in an eastbound lane closure on Richmond Avenue and traffic delays. Avoid this area if possible until about 5 p.m.
