Partnering to Provide: Statewide Expansion
This summer, SPS online learning platform Launch opened offices in St. Louis and Kansas City to better support area partner districts and students. 💻
Faces of SPS Meet Jean Grabeel, director of health services Q: “You oversee a team of more than 60 school nurses. How does their work change during the summer?” A: “We provide the same quality of care as we do during the regular school year, but there are some challenges and differences. For example, there are many more field trips during the summer and for those students who have special health issues, we make sure a school nurse accompanies them on the field trip. If students are outdoors for an extended period of time, we want to make sure that they are well hydrated and protected from excessive sun exposure. We make sure there is plenty of water available and sunscreen provided with parent permission. Our nurses are the first responders for the health needs of the entire building, and that work doesn’t stop during the summer. We’ve got 13,000 kids to take care of.”
