This adaptation was composed by Gypsy Prince, a former A3 student. Hamlet, Claudius and Polonius are re-imagined as women, while Gertrude becomes Bertrand and is re-imagined as a man. These changes re-examine this classic story through the lense of gender roles and power structures. This performance is a conclusion of the work that students did during a J term class. Tickets are free for students and pay what you can for everyone else.

Today, our A3 community met as a staff to process the untimely death of our director, Mike Fisher. We spent today together as staff, students and families to begin facing this difficult loss. Mike has been a longtime member of the Springfield community. He began his career in Springfield in 1990 and has been the founder and administrator of A3 charter school since 2006. Members of the district crisis response team, along with other mental health professionals, therapy dogs and district administrators were present today to help start the grieving process. These professionals will continue to be available to provide support and resources for students and parents when school resumes Monday. We would like to thank the greater community for their support during this difficult time. It is important that we support and care for each other as everyone processes grief differently. Additional resources regarding coping with grief and loss are linked below. Please do not hesitate to contact the school counselors with any questions or concerns. See below for information about the grief process in adolescents and how to talk to teens about suicide. Additionally, in light of the current circumstances our information nights are rescheduled. We will announce new dates as soon as we are able.

From the A3 Staff: We are all shocked and deeply shaken by the news that our director, Mike Fisher, has taken his own life. An event like this only reaffirms how important it is to support each other and lean in to our community. We are our strongest support system, and together we have the tools we need to get through this. Please know that there is no right way to process, and that it's important to take care of yourself as well as others. At this time, we only know as much as you, and for now we must be okay with not having all the answers. To that end, we encourage you to be thoughtful about how you process this news, as so many details are still not confirmed or publicly released. We know that no one desires to spread hurtful rumors and if the information indeed proves correct we want to be respectful of how that impacts individuals in our A3 community. In the meantime, lean on each other and ask for help if you need it. A3 is open today for current students from 10am-2pm where staff and grief counselors will be available to provide additional support. Remember, we are here if you need us and we’re in this together.
