Do you know where the LaBelle Theatre got its name? Constructed in 1939, it was named after the owner, Walter B. Urling’s daughter and mother, who were both named Isabelle. In 1947, Rock Lake Presbyterian Church began on Village Drive as a mission chapel of the South Charleston First Presbyterian Church. In 1949, named for the lake nearby, Rock Lake Presbyterian was officially organized as a church and the present sanctuary building was built ten years later. #SomeplaceSpecial100

Did you know that the South Charleston Public Library first started in 1943 in the old recreation building on Third Avenue? The current library was opened in 1969 (with an expansion added in 1977, shown here under construction). The family owned business, Ken’s Auto Service, on Chestnut Street has been servicing vehicles since 1968. Its owner, Ken Samples, is a proud U.S. Army veteran having worked on special weapons systems during the Cold War. He served as Parade Marshal for the South Charleston Annual Armed Forces Day Parade in 2014. Join us this Saturday for the 58th Annual Herbert J.
