Happy Caturday! It's not hard to see why the Amur tigers capture visitors' attention! Not only are they beautiful, but they're fun to watch. Although they remind us of domesticated cats in many ways, there's no doubt that they're wild animals, and we're careful to be respectful of the many ways they're NOT a house cat. Our carnivore keepers go to conferences and classes to learn to work safely with these big cats and give them a very high quality of life. Slow motion Morgana video by Explore Media

Our Tiny Explorers fall classes, designed for 3-4 year olds (and a parent) start September 7! These classes are a great way to engage your child who already loves animals or spark a new love of nature and the outdoors. This year we're focusing on hungry animals! What do different animals like to eat at the Zoo, and how are they adapted to eat their favorite food? Tiny Explorers classes are $12 for members and $17 for non-members. There are 3 classes, and each class is offered 3 times each month. For more information or to register, visit https://www.potawatomizoo.org/edzoocation/tiny-explorers-classes/

Our deepest thanks to the The Pokagon Fund for generously contributing to our Educational Assistance Program! We know it's sometimes hard for teachers to afford field trips to the Zoo, so the EAP funds class field trips to the Zoo in the springtime. Sometimes the classes we help send us the most adorable thank you cards! Our Director of Development Margie Anella had the opportunity to share some of these thank you notes with our interim executive director, Josh Sisk, and John Krsul, interim executive director of The Pokagon Fund. ❤️

We had a great time at our first ever Curious Conservationists camp, aka, camp for adults! Our campers spent the day doing activities like painting, enrichment, and a scavenger hunt, and learning about animals, conservation, and zoos. Although we don't yet have another Curious Conservationists camp scheduled, we do fall classes for kids 3-12 and adults 18 and up. Sign up and learn something new! https://www.potawatomizoo.org/edzoocation/#zooclasses

It's #InternationalDogDay, and while you should definitely give YOUR dog a nice pat on the head or scritch on the belly for being awesome, we know better than to try to touch our dogs. They may not be as big as lions, but painted dogs are some of nature's most impressive hunters! Painted dogs hunt in a group, and can have a kill rate of more than 60%. Comparatively, a pride of lions might be lucky to have a 30-40% kill rate. However, despite the fact that they used to live all over Africa, painted dogs are now endangered, largely due to habitat fragmentation, but also thanks to humans hunting them as "pests." We've been proud to work with painted dog conservation groups to put tracking collars on painted dogs. Not only does this allow researchers to follow individual animals, the collars help protect painted dogs from human hunters and fences. If you visit our painted dogs, you may notice that there are three now! We recently introduced a male to our sisters, Colby and Bleu. His name is Maurice, and although he's still getting used to his new home, we have high hopes that he'll fit right in with our cheesy girls. Video by Explore Media
