Camp Awesome Arts-Girls is like no other camp around. Each year, the camp is redesigned to be a perfect fit for each and every incoming camper. Read on to see how it’s done. Early Bird registration forms include a survey asking in which activities the registrant has an interest; although some options are presented, any idea is welcome. The results are then compiled and, with great effort made to offer the arts the weeks that the majority of the campers who requested them will be attending, the summer classes are finalized. Once that step is complete, campers are sent a link to a sign-up site where they create their own unique camp schedule by selecting two (sometimes three) arts on which to focus each week. For those girls who like to be sure they will know others in their class, the complete list of prior registrants is available to view on the sign-up site. All of our instructors, experts in their field, are patient and create an encouraging and non-competitive environment. Past arts have included: sewing, knitting, spool weaving, culinary arts, cake decorating, scrap booking, painting, charcoal, sketching, duct tape art, digital photography, rhythmic gymnastics, standard gymnastics, wearable arts, drama/theatre games, clowning and literary arts. In addition to the awesome arts, the girls swim daily (except during the nine days). During breaks, the girls enjoy activities such as Chinese jump rope, iron beads, spool weaving, drawing, playground, GaGa, clay, plastic lacing and more. The atmosphere is very relaxed, with the girls once again having the choice of how to fill their free time. To showcase newly learned skills, there is a Friendly Color War or group Performance during the last week of camp. In 2014, each team created and presented: a gymnastics routine, a cheer, a song, a fiber arts project, a skit, freshly made and braided challahs, and a bulletin board. The summer of 2015 included skits, songs/cheers, posters, and playground competitions. A group Performance, incorporating literary, fine, fiber and performing arts, is planned for Camp Awesome Arts 2016. Please note: in order for each girl to receive the attention she deserves, class sizes are limited and do fill quickly. The total number of camper spots for each week is 12. Although the official registration deadline is June 1, any weeks that fill to capacity before June 1, will be closed to new registrants. Contact us now to hold your spot!
