College students from Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy (ELSA) are helping out homeless people across the area, as a group of volunteers at Friendship Village of Schaumburg has started using old plastic bags to make mats for people living on the streets. Students with developmental disabilities from Elmhurst Learning and Success Academy (ELSA) visited Friendship Village of Schaumburg to learn about their New Life for Old Bags program. The students are planning to take the volunteer initiative back to Elmhurst College, to implement there. New Life for Old Bags creates sleeping mats and pillows for the homeless, from recyclable plastic grocery bags. Sabrina Santucci from NBC Chicago interviewed the students and residents about the program. We can't wait for the segment to appear on NBC 5 tomorrow evening. We'll be sure to share the link after it airs!
