Privacy & Scam
TUESDAY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! This message is forwarded from Southern California Edison: __________________________________________________ For your security, never give out your personal information, such as your SCE account number, Social Security number, credit card information or PIN number. We have recently experienced an increase in reports of caller ID spoofing, a practice in which special phone equipment falsifies information on your caller ID display. Calls may appear to be from SCE, when in reality the caller has no association with SCE and may try to sell you products, collect personal information or say your electric bill is past due when it's not. Common red flag warnings related to spoofed phone calls: - Calls were made multiple times per day - Callers asked about customer's usage, meter or other personal information - Customers were provided recommendations for purchasing alternative energy products Tips to help protect yourself from caller ID spoofing scammers: - SCE will not send solar representatives to your home, nor do we have solar companies contact anyone by phone. - SCE will never ask for credit card information, a prepaid card such as Green Dot or electric usage information over the phone. - Do not use a call back number provided until you confirm it is an SCE number listed on your bill or the Contact Us page on sce.com. Please know that we take your privacy seriously and make every effort to protect your information. For additional red flag warnings and tips to protect yourself, please visit sce.com/scamalert. If you believe you are the recipient of a spoofing call, contact SCE Information Governance at csinfogov@sce.com. Sincerely, Marc Ulrich Vice President of Customer Programs & Services Southern California Edison

TUESDAY PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!! Attached is a screen capture from the Los Angeles County Court system when logging into Jury Duty Registration. I have copied and pasted the text below for easier reading. Please do not fall victim to this scam! __________________________________________________ Please be advised that illicit communications are being made to members of the public warning of a pending case or arrest warrant against the individual or demanding money or personal information for failing to appear for jury service. These communications may not be from the court or its authorized collection vendor GC Services. Some of these fake communications made by email could contain an attachment or a link that may install a virus or other spyware on the computer. Other communications make fraudulent demands to pay a fine or provide personal information, such as a Social Security number. The Court sometimes makes automated phone calls reminding people of a court appearance or jury service. If the Court does so, the caller will not demand any personal information. To respond to a jury summons, or for questions regarding your jury service, please go to the court’s official website: www.lasuperiorcourt.org and click on “Jury Services.” Or call the court’s juror services department at 1-800-778-5879. Court and jury employees will never contact potential jurors by telephone to request any personal or financial information over the telephone. The Court uses a vendor to collect on certain delinquent fees and fines. To confirm an inquiry about delinquent court-ordered debt, you can call GC Services at 1-800-352-3778, or visit their website: https://courtpay.gcserv.com Anyone with questions about a suspicious communication that appears to be from Los Angeles Superior Court should contact the court. A list of phone numbers for all Los Angeles Superior Court locations can be found on the court’s website: www.lasuperiorcourt.org (click on “Locations”) or by calling the court’s Public Information Office at (213) 974-5227. _________________________________________________
