Spotted a very rare bird near Lake Hodges CA yesterday: a Black-throated Magpie-Jay. What a cool bird, with a tail longer then his body :-). ksnaturephotography.com/contact A few days ago I was out birding with a good friend Clark Mahrdt, and had no luck seeing the Jay. Patience is the key. So yesterday went back out again, and there he was! This species occurs in pairs or small groups in woodland and partially open areas on the Pacific Slope of Mexico. There have been a few spotted in San Diego, near the border, and then there is this fellow coming up for a visit. Glad he keeps us entertained, since Lake Hodges is super quiet in the summer months. Enjoy and please feel free to share.

Atlantic Puffin in Scotland. Thousands of Puffins fly to and from their cliff top burrows, the hard part usually is selecting which one to photograph ;). And look at those wings and feet! Did you know that when fishing, Puffins swim under water using their semi-extended wings as paddles to "fly" through the water and their feet as a rudder. They swim fast and can reach considerable depths and stay submerged for up to a minute. ksnaturephotography.com/workshops-tours/scotland-tour-i Enjoy and please feel free to share.
