Congrats to Dr. Jessica Lopez Lyman on her successful journey. We are proud to call you hermana. Thank you for your dedication to your scholar work in Chicana/Chicano Studies. Let's continue our narrative and use the arts as a tool for social change and preservation of cultural traditions and build a place of healthy families, communities and one day nation. Via Jessica Lopez Lyman: "Today I successfully defended my dissertation in Chicana and Chicano Studies. Thank you to my committee members for their mentorship and scholarship. I am deeply indebted to the Chican@/Latin@ Minnesota writers, artists, and performers who craft new worlds and remind us transformational change is possible. This project and graduate journey was made possible by the love and support of family and friends. I am presently without words to express my appreciation to everyone who gifted their time, brought home cooked meals, walked in the park, created impromptu dance parties, gave bodywork, listened to my rambling ideas and encouraged me to keep going. Special thanks to my writing group Alison Reed, Shannon Brennan, Kristie Soares, virtual writing Xingona partner Sara A. Ramírez, local writing homie Jimmy Patiño, and Sara V. Hinojos for leading the way through the program. Emmanuel Ortiz thank you for reminding me to take breaks and find time to play (I always feel better after Left Wing TC futbol)."
