Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Alban!
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: The final of the Alban Spring Classics! Rounding out the season, the Alban is proud to present Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize winning ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’. Dates and Times: June 2, 3 & 9, 10 at 8pm Sunday Matinees: June 3 & 11 at 2pm Tickets: $15 for Adults, $10 Students/Seniors. Group rates are available. Visit our website www.albanartscenter.com to purchase tickets. For more information call 304-721-8896 Location: Alban Arts Center 65 Olde Main Street St. Albans WV 25177 Directed by Greg Morris. Nora Ankrom as Maggie, Dylan M. Clark as Brick, Gary Brown as Big Daddy, Janet "JP" Prince as Big Mamma, George Snider as Gooper, Kate Morris as Mae, Abbey Miskowiec as Dr. Baugh, Rob James as the Pastor, Debbie Sutton as the Servant, and the "No Neck Monsters"(Gooper & Mae’s children): Strider Harmon, Alondra Johnson, Cordelia Morris, Kaylee Steele, and Emma Welker. Synopsis: Maggie “The Cat” and her former football star husband, Brick, share an uncomfortable bedroom, filled with need, spite, and a bed that he won’t willingly share with his wife. Maggie frets about her in-laws and their horrible children taking over the inheritance of Big Daddy’s cotton fortune, while Brick sinks further into grudges and alcoholism. Meanwhile, the entire family is conspiring to hide a terminal cancer diagnosis from Big Daddy and Big Mamma, which could radically upset the balance of power in the family. Brick and Maggie’s bedroom becomes a busy place as the entire family comes in to wish Big Daddy a happy birthday, and the women folk in the family trade verbal slights and cuts. Brick and Big Daddy have a deeply moving altercation regarding Brick’s refusal to start a family, and Brick’s relationship with his best friend, Skipper, who has recently committed suicide. The entire family seems to be trapped, waiting for something to happen, whether it is Big Daddy’s death, or even for one person to believe what another is saying. A theme which runs through the play is “Wouldn’t it be funny if it were true?” Doubt and suspicion fuel the action, and while the truth may not actually be funny, it does continue to strike a chord of recognition in audiences for the reality of when a family is in crisis. This play is Rated R for adult situations and language. Run time is 2 1/2 hours
