Whitnee Cheatem is a long time FLIK associate working at Aetna in Hartford, CT. On December 31st, Whitney had an electrical fire in her apartment. The result of the fire has left both her and her five year old son with nothing. The Red Cross had only provided them with a place to stay until January 10th A Go Fund Me account has been established for Whitney and her son. Our hope is that with the assistance of our associates and friends, we can come together to help Whitnee raise the funds that she needs to get back on her feet, and continue into the new year with hope for a safe, warm home for her and her son. The link to her page can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/cgh2tkas We thank you in advance for anything help you can lend.

Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine joined the ESPN on-site last month. The impromptu appearance was decided just the evening before. Guests were SO excited and word spread very quickly that he was in the Café. He connected with staff and customers, taking photos, making small talk, and just embracing our culture!

On Saturday, 12/5/15 the team at the Sisters of Sacred Heart helped celebrate their 150th anniversary. The FLIK team served a 5 course meal to 150 attendees including Cardinal Dolan who first presided over a celebratory mass for the crowd. The Franciscan Sisters Province began in 1865 on West 31st in NYC where they began teaching immigrant children. Their mission of service and education later expanded to help the needy in both industry and prisons. In1869 the first Provincial House was established at Mount St. Francis in Peekskill, NY where they still reside today with FLIK proudly serving as their foodservice provider. Congratulations to Floyd Simmons, Chef Manager at Mt. St. Francis, and his team for delivering an exceptional event and special thanks to the MasterCard team who stepped up to support. Thank you!

Thunderbird “0WNS IT “with 0peration Gratitude Each year, the Thunderbird Executive Inn team celebrates the holidays with an all staff holiday party. We spend time together sharing presents, good food, and great company. We discuss the past years successes, and look forward to what the New Year will bring. In addition to the food and fun, each year, we offer our time to an activity that benefits a charity. Last year, we made mini Christmas trees and donated them to a local infant and children’s charity to be given to group homes. This year was no exception. On December 16, 2015 the Thunderbird Executive Inn teamed up with Operation Gratitude (https://www.operationgratitude.com/) to make Paracord “Survival” Bracelets and homemade holiday & thank you cards, to be sent to troops overseas. Each person attending the holiday party watched the introduction video on how to make a paracord bracelet and then worked individually to complete two bracelets each. We also made homemade holiday and thank you cards that would be sent in addition to a variety of goodies, toiletries, etc. to the troops. Not only are the bracelets really cool-looking, they can be used for survival, to save a life in an emergency situation. The bracelets pictured here with Shana Van Atta, our Conference Services Supervisor and Diversity team captain, were all sent to Operation Gratitude, who will put one bracelet in every care package sent overseas.
