Today we kicked off our summer schedule of activities, including lots of time spent at our OWL Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center in Dubach! When we plan summer camp for the youth at the Children's Home, we have several goals. We want to challenge our youth and help them grow. We want them to experience new things and gain life skills. But our primary goal? We want summer camp at the OWL to be FUN! This year we will have 7 weeks of camp for our youth, packed with speakers, activities, and field trips. Weekly themes this year include Waterworks, Robin Hood, Super Heroes, OWL Olympics, and Earth Week. Our youth will experience horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, the ropes course and the maze. In addition, they will get to do archery, mountain biking, orienteering, and arts and crafts. All of these activities have a purpose: When we teach one of our youth a new skill, they learn valuable lessons: how to set goals and develop a plan, how to break down a new skill, and how to follow instructions. It's going to be a summer of learning and great fun!

Olivia Caputo and Joanne Yi wanted to raise money to help kids. After hearing about LMCH at St. John's UMC in Baton Rouge on Mother's Day, when their church was promoting our Special Offering, Olivia and Joanne decided to raise money to benefit LMCH kids. They had a lemonade stand at Fresh Pickins Market where they sold lemonade and other treats to meet their goal. We are thankful they chose our kids to donate their proceeds to!

Construction of the pond, in honor of Dr. George and Nina Vincent, is being made possible through an anonymous donation. In the pictures you can see where clearing has begun and the youth and staff are looking on as the work progresses.

May is National Foster Care Month! It is a time to spread the word about the need for more foster parents, as well as a time to celebrate our dedicated foster parents. Our Monroe Methodist Foster Care office staff, along with administrative staff from our Children's Home, took area foster parents to eat at The Warehouse and gave them gifts of OWL Salsa and Jelly as well as specially decorated desserts! We want to thank the numerous businesses who donated gifts or services for our foster parents as well. Stay tuned for pictures and details of our Foster Parent appreciation efforts in Alexandria and Lafayette! Do you or someone you know want to become a foster parent? For more information please contact Dana Castine at 877-554-7021.
