The rescheduled date for the Pizza Ranch fundraiser for the Friends of Lockwood is April 16, 2018.The Friends of Lockwood receive 10% of all sales and tips from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm!! Come out and support the park and volunteers! And treat yourselves to some delicious food! Friends of Lockwood volunteers will be busing tables. They work really hard to make it a great dinner experience for customers. The money they raise will help purchase animal feed and help with maintenance projects around the park. Ag Education Field Trips at Lockwood Park in 2018! Chick-A-Rama: Dates May 3 or 4, 2018; 9-11 a.m. or 11:00-1:30 p.m. Designed for students PreK-2 Bring your students out to the park and learn about how chicks hatch! The kids will see newly hatched chicks and enjoy an Ag in the Classroom lesson. They will also have the chance to tour the barn and learn about the farm animals who live at the park. Classes may bring their lunch and eat at the park pavilion. What’s Horsepower? May 9 or 10, 2018; 9-11 a.m. or 11:00-1:30 p.m. Designed for students in grades 3-5 Students will explore the original meaning of horsepower and meet the park’s horses. They will also learn how horses were used in agriculture and that today’s tractors also use “horsepower”. Students will learn about modern equipment and the technology used today. Students will have a GPS activity to simulate part of a farmer’s job. Classes may bring their lunch and eat at the park pavilion. Dairy Days: September 20 or 21, 2018; 9-11 a.m. or 11:00-1:30 p.m. Designed for students in grades 2-4 Dairy days will let students explore the life of a dairy cow. They will meet the park’s calf and learn how she will grow into a milk cow. Students will have a chance to vote on a name for the calf and make ice cream in a bag! Classes may bring their lunch and eat at the park pavilion. Things to know: All fieldtrips include a $4 per student fee. Fee is payable to The Rockford Park District on the day of the trip.
