What an amazing letter of gratitude from the seniors at our new community. “We call ourselves the New Old People” How about a great place to live for older seniors in our city. We are very grateful to be allowed to get to the age we are. We come from a decade of “baby boomers”, “self-awareness” “peace marches” and “drug experiments.” Oh yes, far from perfect, but we have learned from it all. Now we have been allowed a great opportunity to live at last in a beautiful and peaceful place. And, for most, it came just in time. Coming out of strained relationships, we are so grateful to at last to have a great place to call home. We have forged new friendships that we have now come to call family. No, we’re not twenty minutes out of town, we’re right here in the heart of our city. We come from all races and ethnic groups who are embarking on this new chapter in our lives together. We are the new old people. We’re your cooks, waitresses, housewives, hair dressers, veteran’s, fathers, mothers, aunts and uncles. We are a precious community of strong people, that have been what we like to think that we hold a place in making this country great today. A people that pulled themselves out of all kinds of adversities and much pain. We’ve lasted the test of times, we’ve lasted the pain of hopes, and yet we’ve remained here to hope, to believe to be encouraged always for a better world for today.
