Peoria Zoo's BEEP (Behavioral Enrichment and Enhancement Program) provides physically and mentally stimulating activities for all the Zoo's animals. We want your help in deciding which BEEP enrichment item the Contact Barn animals will receive tomorrow. To vote- all you need to do is Like, Love or Wow this post based on the choices below. How much do rhinos weigh? Where do giraffes sleep? All this and more will be answered during our Behind the Scenes tour on Saturday, September 14th at 9 am. This hour long tour will take you into areas the public doesn’t normally get to see. Plus you can learn more about the animals and how we care for them. Budgie Feeding
Have you been to the Budgie Aviary at the Peoria Zoo? Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, from 11 am to 4 pm you can experience these colorful birds. There is no charge to visit the Budgie Aviary but guests can purchase a Budgie Seed Sticks for just $2.00 to feed the birds from your hand. Budgie Encounters may be subject to change or cancellation. These amazing creatures are wild animals and we can not guarantee that they will land on your stick or stick to our schedule. Visit peoriazoo.org/budgie-aviary-encounter/ for more info.
Join us tomorrow, August 24th, for the 40th Annual Zoo Run Run! Same day registration is allowed from 7am - 7:30am at the Peoria Zoo. The event consists of Youth 1/4 Mile Run for ages 12 and under, a 1 mile walk for all ages, and a 5K (3.1mile) Grand Prix Race that winds through the Zoo and Glen Oak Park. Racers will start and finish near the Africa! portal in Peoria Zoo at Glen Oak Park.Registration includes a 2019 Zoo Run Run t-shirt, prizes and post-race food.
You can pick up your race packet for Zoo Run Run either today, August 22nd, from 4pm - 6pm or tomorrow, August 23rd, from 11am - 1pm. Please enter the zoo at the old zoo entrance by the stone lions. Our #ThrowbackThursday post to celebrate the Peoria Park District's 125th anniversary continues! In 2009 the Peoria Zoo opened Africa! This ambitious expansion nearly doubled the size of the zoo introducing Giraffes, Zebras, Rhinos and other species.
