Seminar w/ Professor Kurt Taylor
On Saturday July 22nd, we will be hosting a seminar for Professor Kurt Taylor. We will begin @ 3pm and the price will be $40 per person (all proceeds will go directly to Kurt). Kurt is a Black Belt under Eddie Ricardo and owns Cobra BJJ in Tuscaloosa which is also a Checkmat affiliate. There he has produced some amazing students both on and off the mats. Their school has also been very successful in competition as well. Kurt is known for his contagious passion that pours into every person he works with and his very laid back, approachable nature. So don't miss out on what will be an awesome day of sharing knowledge fun and friendship. We hope to see you there!
This week we have a cool technique off of a fake guard pull. This technique requires both good timing and speed which can be acquired through lots of repetition (drilling). If you find this video helpful, please share it, tag your friends in the comment section and be sure to follow us for more BJJ content in the future!
This week we have a very special guest sharing some of his knowledge with us..... This is Professor Kurt Osiander showing a Kiss of the Dragon sweep variation w/ the Lasso! Special thanks to Professor Niall Yamane @ Yamane Championship Mixed Martial Arts for letting us film in his academy & to Professor Kurt Osiander for an amazing time! Congratulations to little Emily for earning the first stripe on her white belt tonight!!!!! This little girl has an amazing spirit and we are so very proud of her!
Fun Flow Drill
Having trouble with someone passing your guard before you can break their grips? Give the Tootsie Roll Sweep a try! Just remember that this technique is all about timing.... You can't let your opponent settle their weight and then move, but rather use their forward momentum against them to your advantage. It definitely takes a lot of drilling! If you find this video useful, please share it, tag your friends in the comment section and be sure to follow us for more content in the future. Enjoy!!!

SUMMER SPECIAL!!!!! Come check out this limited time offer! Valid June 1st through August 31st Facebook.com/missionsubmissions
This week one of our members, Gabe teaches us a cool counter from the turtle position..... Since this gangster technique so rebelliously defies the the authority of the arm roll we are lovingly referring to it as the "THUG LIFE!" Many competitors use this technique (and variations of it) in the highest levels of combat sports. Like with everything else, it takes the proper amount of drilling to develop the right timing that will make this effective in your game, so don't give up on it if you don't quite get it at first! If you like this technique, please show us some love by sharing, tagging your friends in the comments and/or just simply liking this video! ENJOY!!!

Congratulations to Ayden for earning his Grey/White belt tonight!!! It's been a long time coming for this little guy and we are all so very proud of him!
COACHING TIP FOR LIFE: Sometimes on the mats and off the mats you find yourself in a position to encourage another person to reach their goals. However, we need to always be mindful of how hard we are pushing someone as to ensure it's not creating a sizable gap in the relationship with the very person we are trying to help! Know THEIR limits, don't overstep YOUR boundaries! Sorry no techniques this week guys.... In Jiu Jitsu, mindset is just as important!
