facebook.comWednesday morning about 2:00 a.m., July 19, 2017 Jackson MS. Pearl Police Department Officer Jenkins' house takes on heavy rounds of fire while he lies resting inside with his family. Thankfully he and his wife escape without physical harm, but his home and many of the contents of are struck by the rounds of fire that penetrated through the residence. Today, less than 48 hours later, through an outpouring of support from fellow departments, large businesses, small businesses, community leaders, and even total strangers, Officer Jenkins and his family not only have a new residence but a house completely full of brand new furniture, damaged items replaced, and all brand new basic necessities needed to live comfortably and safely in their home. Pearl Police would like to thank everyone that have called, prayed, donated, and lifted up not only Corporal Jenkins but the department and community as well in these last few days. Your response and how fast you came to this officer's aid is humbling, inspiring, and unbelievable. To name just a few: Miskelly Furniture, Sam's Club, T and D Furniture, Walmart, D Noblin furniture, Pearl Chamber of Commerce, along with many other businesses and individuals that as of this release I had not received them all. Former citizens of Pearl as far away as Maryland have called asking how they can contribute. Total strangers walking in off the streets wanting to give what they have...there were many. You see you might can break through some sheetrock, try to instill fear, and even attempt to crush the human spirit, but one thing you cannot destroy is the community and the law enforcement family that comes together in times of need. Thank you for standing with us. #PearlStrong
Special thanks to Undersheriff Raymond Duke with the Rankin County Sheriff's Department and their support of our fellow officer as we sort through the investigation and seek to find those responsible.

On Monday, May 1, 2017, Pearl Police Department was contacted regarding a social media post concerning a family that visited the Outlets of Mississippi on Sunday, April 30, 2017. In their visit, it was a mother and daughter who were in a jewelry/accessory store at the mall. The mother stated in her post that an adult male entered the store and she believed the male had the intent of kidnapping her child (11 year old female) based on the male's posture and his close placement to them as they walked throughout the store. The mother left the store with her daughter after the incident and walked toward the front of the mall (parking lot). It was at that time she saw a different male being arrested by 2 Pearl Police officers that were there making the arrest on an individual that had been shoplifting at a different vendor. Rather than attempt to wait for police to inform them of the mentioned incident, the mother and her daughter were picked up by the father and they then left the parking lot driving back to their hometown in north MS. While on the way back (approximately 45 minutes later after leaving the mall) the mother of the 11 year old placed a call to Pearl Police Department on a non emergency number (601-939-7000) and provided the dispatcher an account of the details mentioned. The mother stated she was already on her way out of town and did not see the need to meet an officer to make a report but wanted someone to know. After speaking with officers on shift that day, along with a certified officer that was working a security detail that day at the Outlets, it was determined that the suspicious male was never reported to authorities until the complainant was out of our city and 45 minutes after her uncomfortable encounter. While we do not doubt she and her daughter may have felt uncomfortable in the males presence in the store, there is no crime that has been committed and no evidence that the male ever touched the child or the mother based on the mother's statement along with employees in the store at the time of the incident. The male is seen leaving the store and continues his shopping leisurely throughout the outlet mall. We have a surveillance video picture of the male that we will be sharing with officers in the event there is a similar situation involving this male ever again. Citizens of Pearl along with all visitors to the Outlets of Mississippi should know they are well protected by the officers that are at the Outlet Mall each day, along with the state of the art surveillance system in place at nearly every corner of the outlet mall. In this particular incident, had police known sooner than 45 mins of the incident it is possible the male could have been located and identified due to being reported as a suspicious incident. However, based on the female complainants statement and Facebook post no crime was committed other than a feeling of being uncomfortable that could have been reported to officers that were there handling a shoplifting incident, notification to on duty mall management, or simply by reporting it to 911. This post is not intended to downplay what the complainant said in her post but rather to ensure the public that when called upon as public servants our department will also respond accordingly to any requests for emergency service. The safety of the public is of upmost importance to all of us in this city and we will always be committed to ensuring that safety to our own citizens as well as visitors from out of the area. -Lt. Brian McGairty

Today we pause to reflect on the life of Officer Mike Walter and his fellow officers that were with him on that dark day, May 1, 2012. We will always remember Mike and although this day is a reflection of a moment in time, the truth is there is not a day that goes by that we don't think of you and your ultimate selfless sacrifice you made. Continue to patrol those streets of heaven as we all look forward to seeing you again soon. You remind us all that in life it's not how you die but how you live. May God continue to bless your family and the families affected by this day, 5 years ago. #X6
