Researchers to create quick, low-cost cancer diagnostic

Notre Dame researchers have received $2.9 million to develop a new diagnostic platform that could diagnose cancer in as little as three hours by using only one or two drops of blood.

Fueling Success: Food recovery program helps students excel in the classroom

Since beginning a partnership with Notre Dame in 2017, Cultivate Food Rescue has rescued 42,000 pounds of food that has been prepared but never served at athletics, dining and special event venues across campus. During the Spring semester, more than 14,000 meals made in part from that rescued food were delivered to students at a local primary school to provide access to healthy food over the weekend. Greek temple ruins suggest lifting machines in use 1.5 centuries earlier than previously believed

New research by Architecture Professor Alessandro Pierattini shows that forerunners to the modern crane were experimented with as early as 700-650 B.C. adding nuance to the broadly accepted view that the machine was not in use until 515 B.C.

New literacy research office launches at Notre Dame

The James R. Squire Office of Policy Research in the English Language Arts will create studies that advance knowledge and inform policy on teaching English language arts, such as incorporating media and digital literacies into teaching English and increasing the engagement of vulnerable youth by tapping into popular culture to improve literacy outcomes.

Hydroelectric plant groundbreaking moves Notre Dame closer to sustainability goals and Seitz Park renovation

Notre Dame and South Bend Venues Parks & Arts broke ground today on a 2.5-megawatt hydroelectric generation facility on the dam in the St. Joseph River in downtown South Bend. The facility is expected to generate about 7 percent of the University’s electrical needs and offset nearly 9,700 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
