You just now bid farewell to last year (2016) and welcomed a New Year (2017). There is an intimate relationship between the two. We give farewell to one and welcome the other. In the same spirit, bid farewell to your bad qualities and welcome good and divine qualities. Offer all your bad qualities to God; it is nothing wrong. Only God can accept them and bestow His grace on you to foster good qualities. For example, if you have a soiled, torn and defaced hundred rupee currency note, no one will accept it. But, if the number is intact, the Reserve Bank will accept it and replace it with a valid currency of same value. Similarly God alone will accept the bad qualities, provided they are offered with sincere devotion and repentance, and will then shower His Grace on you. - Divine Discourse, Jan 1, 1994. You must welcome tests because it gives you confidence and ensures promotion. - Baba

Nature. Beauty. Gratitude.

To begin this New Year in the right earnest and to make sure that we pursue true happiness, Northborough SAI Center will be having a SATSANG from 6:00 PM on Saturday (12/31/2016) to 1:00 AM Sunday (1/1/2017) at the Center. We look forward to a happy, holy and peaceful 2017, filled with divine love. As the year 2016 draws to a close, it is time for us to celebrate many joyful and sacred moments that we enjoyed together. Devotion Wing: Study Circles: Jan to Jun: Under the theme of "Mama Dharma (My Duty)", we studied the topics of Mala (dirt), Vikshepa (distortion) and Aavarana (veil of ignorance) and then focussed on the two axioms - Shraddhavan Labhate Jnanam (One of faith attains wisdom) and Shamshayatma Vinashyati (One with doubt will perish). Sep to Dec: Under the theme of "Sadhana - An Inward Path", we studied the topics of Sama (Mind Control), Dama (Body and Sense Control) and Uparathi (Withdrawal from the senses). Events: One Day Sadhana Retreat in April - Focus was to spend a day in a conducive environment with like minded folks that promotes Sadhana Guru Poornima - We had a Panel discussion from the Sai Alumni group and for the first time, this event was held in Maine. Regional Retreat at Troy - We had Dr Sudhir Bhaskar and Crystal Harris sharing their thoughts and experiences under the theme of Mama Dharma Sailent Retreat at Sloatsburg, NY - We had Dr Sundar Iyer guiding us through the theme of Sadhana - An Inward Path touching upon how yoga helps us to keep the body and mind in control Navaratri - This year, we had a video series on Sathya to Sai providing glimpses of Swami's childhood days leading to his Avatar declaration. This helped us to understand that Swami was displaying all the divine qualities even when he was operating at a human level. Education wing : SSE year 2016-17 started on Sept 11th 2016. The overall theme for SSE 2016-17 is Gratitude. Gratitude is further split into 3 topics for 3 quarters. o Nature (Sept,Oct,Nov) o Society (Dec,Jan,Feb) o Family (March,April,May) Each of the above topic is studied for 3 months. Currently all groups have studies Gratitude towards Nature at their respective levels and are transitioning into the next sub topic. Group 1: Mainly focused on the Gratitude towards Nature and awareness avoiding waste of the natural resources such as water, earth, electricity. For example: Children were taught practical tips as how to avoid waste of the natural resources. Group 2: Lessons are mainly focused on Gratitude to nature and were made to understand why we need to be grateful to mother nature. In this process of understanding the importance, they focused on not wasting water, food. For example: Children are working on a project to depict the effects and impact of food wastage. Group 3: Lessons are mainly focused on Gratitude to nature, which is relevant to the things that can be practiced to reduce the usage of natural resources. Example: Children picked their goals that they want to practice at an individual level like - try to conserve electricity, recycle more, buy only the things which are needed. Group 4: Group 4 Class were mainly focused on Gratitude and have completed their lessons on Gratitude. In this leaning process they have read · Summer Showers" 1996 "The Value of Gratitude" , · listened to Swami's discourse on Gratitude, · watched TED talks,A Visual Short Film by Louie Schwartzberg (This Short film mainly focused on the Physical beauty of Planet earth and Gratitude towards the Wonderful things is the underlined theme) http://www.ted.com/talks/louie_schwartzberg_nature_beauty_gratitude · Second short film by Benedictine monk Brother David Steindl-Rast: http://www.ted.com/talks/david_steindl_rast_want_to_be_happy_be_grateful The theme of Brother David’s talk was to be happy, you should be grateful. · Prepared a Gratitude Grid towards nature,Family and Society. · Since Gratitude was a well received topic by the Group 4 class- currently the lessons topic is branched on to Self-confidence.
