The Town of North Hampton, as with other towns across the state, has experienced a significant weather event. The severe weather with hurricane-force winds has caused damage throughout town where we’ve experienced fallen trees and downed power lines, leaving some roads impassable and left 1/3 of the town without power. Public utility officials from Eversource have informed us that 1/3 of the state is without power and utility crews are out in force attempting to restore power to customers. Other areas of the state have been impacted as severely. An additional 500 line personnel are due in to New Hampshire tomorrow to assist in the restoration efforts. Eversource has informed us that power will not be fully restored for at least 1 to 3 days, at minimum. Some areas of the state may be without power for 4 to 5 days. Priorities have been given to severely impacted areas. Power will be restored as soon as practically possible. Wind gusts at 40-50mph are expected throughout Monday evening and temperatures will be in the 30’s at night and 40’s during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday with slight warming on Thursday in the 50’s. We suggest that you make extended plans to take care of yourself and family - seek shelter with others, if possible. Please check on your neighbors, especially those with special needs. Residents are welcome to the Town Hall in order to charge their electronic devices for communication. North Hampton Fire & Rescue, Police and Department of Public Works have been working tirelessly throughout this storm event to handle emergencies and open roadways to the best of their ability. We ask for your patience and understanding while work is being completed in opening roadways and restoring power. For further assistance, questions and concerns, or residents with special healthcare needs, call North Hampton Fire & Rescue at 964-5500 so that we may assist you. Important reminders during this extended event: 1. Do not attempt to move downed power lines or drive over them, call 9-1-1. 2. Practice safe procedures with portable generators - use generators outside only and away from windows, doorways and garages. 3. Patience is required - allow emergency crews to work in the roadway to help alleviate the problem - do not attempt to drive around them. Michael J. Tully, Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director
