Fort 2 Base Race
Description
Fort2Base is an annual race on Illinois' cornerstone military command and training centers: Fort Sheridan and Naval Station Great Lakes. Participants have a choice of two distances, a 10 nautical mile (11.5 miles) and a 3 nautical mile (3.45 miles) distance.
The 10 nautical mile event is a point to point race, which begins at historic Fort Sheridan (Army) and ends at Naval Station Great Lakes (Navy).
The 3 nautical mile event takes place entirely within the private expanse of Naval Station Great Lakes.
Both courses offer runners a unique glimpse into beautiful scenic vistas of the North Shore as well as the magnificence of Illinois’ great military encampments.
Directly following the races, participants and their families along with sponsors and community partners are invited to partake in an array of activities and festivities in the finish area on Ross Field. Military relics and equipment (tanks, cannons, model ships and aviation equipment) provide the backdrop for music, games, a kid's race and refreshments.
