About The award winning Ameranouche (pronounced uh-Mare-uh-noosh) plays a passionate style of music they call “Gypsy Flamenco Swing.” They are veterans of the Newport Jazz Festival, Djangofest Northwest, Muzikfest Bethlehem, PA and the National Press Club. The name is derived from two words: American and Manouche, the gypsy tribe of guitarist Django Reinhardt. The rip-roaring ensemble is a super force of hot acoustic Gypsy inspired music mixing Flamenco, Bebop and Jazz swing influences. Played on traditional French jazz guitars, the music is rhythmic, vigorous, and elegant. Whether they’re playing a musette waltz from 1930 or an Andalusian inspired original tune, Ameranouche’s Gypsy Flamenco Swing style is a fresh and highly enjoyable new sound for the 21st century. Gypsy Flamenco Swing is about coming together and celebrating our shared humanity. Ameranouche is committed to connecting deeply with its audience and sharing joy and peace through its live shows and recorded albums.
Wielding a voice that defies the size of her body and strong storytelling sensibilities, Emilia Dahlin has carved out her name as a unique songstress. She weaves mesmerizing tales (complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods, and tax evaders) with raw, rootsy folk and dynamic jazz vocals. Her well-crafted songs sound as if they've been left outside where time and weather have worn cracks for the wind to whip through. Her sky-rocketing energy is delivered with honesty. She's a “self-made original” and the quintessential indie musician, wearing the hat of artist, manager, and booking agent at once.
The Gawler Family Band will perform an evening of traditional fiddling and folk music rooted in Maine and New England traditions with soaring melodies and driving rhythms. This talented musical family includes celebrated fiddler, Ellen, trained in the traditions of French-Canadian, Maritime, Shetland and old time New England fiddlers; husband John, a masterful banjo and guitar player; daughter, Molly, a fiddler, banjo player and singer; and Molly’s husband, Lao playing flutes from around the world and adding rhythm to the band with his bodhran. This will be an evening that is sure to delight with its traditional, yet lively fiddling that is at the same time inventive and playful.
Maine Highland Fiddlers are part of the traditional Celtic music revival that thrives throughout the North Atlantic rim. The music of Scotland, Cape Breton, Ireland and the Shetlands resonates well with the rich heritage of Maine’s early Celtic settlements. Along with fiddles, the group includes guitar, bodhran, and piano. The group of seven musicians gathers from throughout Southern, Western and Mid-Coast Maine to perform, pass on, and renew the Celtic fiddle tradition in Maine. Their music recaptures the kitchen party atmosphere that is central to the Celtic tradition.
