The Fredonia Hotel coming soon!! From its inception, The Fredonia Hotel has been a community project.  In the late 1940s, Nacogdoches leaders recognized the need for a first class facility to bring both tourism and business to the city.  Led by Jack McKinney, city leaders organized the effort to secure funding to build The Fredonia Hotel.

It was not large investors, however, but the citizens of Nacogdoches who truly made The Fredonia possible.  Over half of the initial investment came from individual citizens who purchased single shares of stock for $100.00 each.  Even the name comes from the community.  In 1953, McKinney started a contest to name the hotel, promising the winner a stay in the best room and all meals for the day, including breakfast in bed.  Said McKinney of the winner, “The name is distinctive, euphonious, and easily remembered.  It has universal appeal, yet is peculiarly indigenous and reflects the spirit that will make the hotel possible.”

Throughout its history, The Fredonia has switched ownership several times.  In September of 2015, Richard and Barbara DeWitt purchased the hotel and after extensive renovations will be reopened in 2017.  Upon its original opening in 1955, it was considered state of the art and was described as being “as modern as an atomic submarine.”  Today, we will provide our guests with 21st century modernity and hospitality while remaining true to our historic, community focused roots.
