On 5/8/2017 at approximately 2227 hours – The City of Monroe Police Department Field Investigation Team received an anonymous tip of illegal drug use at Deer Acres Inn, located at 802 North Broad Street. Investigators located several subjects inside a hotel room abusing and possessing illegal narcotics, such as suspected Hydrocodone, Hydrocodone Bitartrate, Oxycodone and Clonazepam. The incident is presently under investigation with the potential of additional charges being filed, pending evidence results from the GBI Crime Lab. A total of three (3) individuals was taken into custody and arrest warrants obtained for the following offenses: STEVEN BROACH (40 YOA) Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance (2 Counts) Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Drug Related Objects (1 Count) CHRISTIAN WRIGHT (39 YOA) Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance (2 Counts) Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Drug Related Objects (1 Count) JAMES JOHNSON (52 YOA) Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance (2 Counts) Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance (1 Count) Possession of Drug Related Objects (1 Count)

5/6/2017 - The Monroe Police and Fire Department participated in the 2nd annual “Touch-A-Truck” fundraiser, sponsored by the Monroe Junior Service League, at the Fairgrounds on East Church Street. All proceeds will go toward scholarships to local students here in Walton County.

On 04/30/2017 at approximately 1917 hours Officers responded to the area of Sycamore Square Apartments in reference to a fight involving two male subjects. When officers arrived they noticed a male subject holding a bag matching the description given, standing in the parking lot breathing heavily. The subject, who was later identified as TEVIN ATKINSON, attempted to walk inside an apartment before he was stopped by responding officers. Atkinson dropped the bag prior to approaching the officers and acknowledged he got into a fight with his brother over keys. Atkinson was found in possession of forty-one (41) Oxycodone pills, one hundred-seventy one (171) Xanax pills, a clear plastic baggie containing marijuana less than one ounce and a 45 caliber Springfield XP handgun. The investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for the residence, utilizing the Monroe Police Department Field Investigation Team. Monroe officers executed the search warrant for the apartment and located additional illegal narcotics (MDMA and Oxycodone) along with a 22 caliber Rifle, hidden behind a phony wall in the upstairs bedroom. A total of five (5) individuals were taken into custody and arrest warrants obtained for the following offenses: TEVIN ATKINSON (25 YOA): One Count - Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent To Distribute One count - Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance with Intent To Distribute One count - Possession of Marijuana less than one ounce One Count - Possession of Firearm during Commission of VGCSA One Count - Possession and Carrying Concealed Weapon without a License One Count – Failure to Appear Warrant out of Doraville (Traffic Offense) THAKEDUS SIMMONS (38 YOA): One Count - Possession of Cocaine One Count - Marijuana Less Than One Ounce One count - Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance with Intent to distribute One Count - Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance One Count - Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance One Count - Drugs Not In Original Container One Count - Possession of Firearm During Commission of Crime One Count - Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon DAISHANEA WILSON (22 YOA), AKEIELA POUNDS (20 YOA) and TRAONTAVIOUS COOPER (19 YOA) were all charged with the following offenses: One Count - Possession of Cocaine One Count - Marijuana Less Than One Ounce One count - Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance with Intent to distribute One Count - Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance One Count - Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance One Count - Drugs Not In Original Container One Count - Possession of Firearm During Commission of Crime As of 5/5/2017 several of the individuals listed above are out on bond, pending their court hearing.
