The Mishawaka Memorial Day Parade is a joint endeavor over many many years to honor the sacrifice of Mishawaka veterans ESPECIALLY those who dieD defending our Country. Their names are used in each years program. The Parade is planned by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Mishawaka and Ryan Balmer (KIA) Post 161 Mishawaka along with the cooperation of the City of Mishawaka. The parade planning begins 5 months prior by a volunteer parade committee. This is NOT the official site. I started this web page when I was on the parade committee. Here are the two face book pages of each Post. Contact the great Officers and volunteers at each post to apply to be in the parade or provide financial support. Insurance and other costs to put on the parade are surprisingly high Here are the facebook pages The Phone number of American Legion Post 161 is (574) 255-8319 https://www.facebook.com/VFWPost360/ https://www.facebook.com/MishawakaPost161/

Mishawaka has many parade volunteers. Folks who attend the Battell park ceremony hear and feel the civil war reenactors fire the large civil war cannon. With deep regret I inform everyone that immediately after firing his cannon for the last time, Leroy died of an apparent heart attack. Tragedy. Here is his obituary Leroy A. Bowers June 16, 1942 - May 29, 2017 SOUTH BEND - Leroy Allen Bowers, age 74 of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on May 29, 2017. Leroy was born June 16, 1942, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Lynn and Sibyl (Hutchison) Bowers. Following graduation from Penn High School, Leroy enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving honorably during the Korean War era. He was later employed for many years as a lay out man at Wheelabrator Frye in South Bend. On December 31, 1985, he married Beverly McCann in Osceola, Indiana. They recently celebrated 31 years of marriage.
