One Heartland
Description
We design and run camp programs for youth and families facing significant health challenges or social isolation. When One Heartland was established in 1993, our mission focused solely on giving children with HIV/AIDS the best week of their lives. Since then, as community needs have changed, we have evolved and expanded to a place dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and families facing other significant life or health challenges, including those seeking to achieve a healthy weight, facing homelessness or identifying as LGBT. And while our mission still begins with providing care-free weeks at camp during the summer, program participants and their families also enjoy year-round peer and community support and education.
And since most of One Heartland’s campers live at or below the poverty level, we rely on the generosity of donors and volunteers to makes our programs a reality.
Our programs include:
•Camp Heartland, a program serving youth ages 7-15 from all over the United States who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
•Camp Northstar, a program that serves Minnesota youth ages 7-13 who are living in transitional housing.
•Camp 5210, a camp for kids seeking to achieve a healthy weight.
•Camp True Colors - Minnesota, a camp for youth ages 13-18 who identify as LGBT and are being a served by an out-of-home program.
•OneFutures, a mentorship program for young adults from all over the country. This program has expanded to include participants from all populations we serve.
•Camp Hollywood HEART is an arts-based camp in Malibu, Calif. for youth ages 15-20 who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
•Camp True Colors – Northeast and Camp True Colors – Texas are programs that serve LGBT youth in their respective regions
All told, in our 20 year history, we have served over 10,000 children.
