Hensel Farms
Description
In 1903, Robert and Clara Hensel arrived at Ellis Island with their children Erna and Erich from Dresden Germany. In 1908, they purchased land in Milmay N.J. and started a truck farm. Their children Erna H. Ewen, Dothea H. Frank, Florence H. K. Hines and Alice H. Milana were active in working the fields until they were old enough to work in the factories or leave to raise their own families. Erich stayed with the farm and today, it is a fourth generation farm with over 100 years of farming experience. The crops currently raised are Lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, parsley, eggplant, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, flowers and bedding plants. Its produce appears in markets along the eastern seaboard and the farm has grown from the original 35 acres to 250 acres, encompassing several farms throughout the Buena Vista Twp area.
