Reminder that we are celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week 2017 and locally that means FREE historic trolley tours to visitors through May 13th, Old Governor's Mansion in Milledgeville, GA is offering one free tour a day at 3 pm, Sallie Ellis Davis House will offer tours today, Wednesday, at 2 pm by appointment only and Rose Hill Lockerly Arboretum will offer free tours to the public all day on Wednesday. The John Marlor Art Center and the GCSU’s Natural History Museum will be open to the public and offer FREE admission through Friday. Andalusia, Home of Flannery O'Connor is free and open to the public Thursday - Sunday 10 - 5. Andalusia will offer a free Flannery pin to any visitor that week who mentions National Tourism Week and each will be entered into a drawing to receive our next limited edition tee-shirt in honor of National tourism week. Multiple local attractions are offering free tours this week in recognition of National Travel and Tourism Week 2017! “Travel and tourism is one of the most reliable generators of jobs at all levels of the American economy, including right here in Milledgeville. We aim to show the powerful role of travel in this community,” says Linda Bailey, Office Manager of the Milledgeville Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Andalusia Book Group Open to Everyone
Andalusia, Home of Flannery O'Connor continues its drop-in all-O’Connor book group on the last Thursday of every month, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The program takes place during the weekday and is a perfect opportunity for retirees, students, and travelers to be introduced to the author’s work and to the place where O’Connor lived with her mother from 1951 until her death in 1964 at age 39.

This week we are ‘Showcasing Milledgeville’ at Milledgeville Main Street's First Friday event. Friday night, from 6 – 9 pm, downtown will fill with local artist demos, local talent, live music, face painting and merchant specials. Heart Pine will be performing a free evening of bluegrass music in Allen's Market beginning at 7:30 pm. Saturday morning, grab your locally grown, sustainably produced vegetables, fruit, meat, bread, preserves and plants at The Green Market (now weekly on Saturdays from 9 am – noon). Then moms and daughters can participate in an acrylic painting workshop to create a painting that that incorporates your child's little hand.

This week in Milledgeville, watch the latest film stars be born and catch various live musical performances. Tonight starting at 7:30 pm, Max Noah Recital Hall will host Small Ensembles Spring Concert. Tonight and tomorrow, April 25, catch the Solo Performance by Kayla Thomas at Campus Black Box Theatre. Beginning on Wednesday night, catch a flick as part of the 4th annual Milledgeville Film Festival. Get ready for 5 days of films, panels, and parties. On April 27, Sound Sculptures XII will be held on Georgia College's McComb Building. The 2017 JazzFest is held on Saturday, April 29, from 2 – 9 p.m. at the Pecan Grove on the Central State Hospital grounds. Bring a picnic basket and blanket and sit out under the stars while listening to the sounds from the University's own Jazz Band as well as other featured artists.
