Main Street
Description
Main Street, the ultimate shopping, dining, and entertainment destination has lured generations of discerning locals and travelers to its idyllic setting. Main Street lies at the heart of the Miami Lakes Community. The social hub for Miami Lakes and the surrounding community, Main Street is comprised of restaurants, retail shops, apartments, offices, Shula’s Hotel, movie and live theaters, as well as civic facilities, including the Town of Miami Lakes’ Government Center.
With quant brick paved sidewalks, Mediterranean architecture, oak trees and bubbling fountains, visitors are given an urban atmosphere within a suburban community.
Opening in 1983, Main Street was in the forefront of urban design. As part of the master plan of Miami Lakes, The Graham Companies (developers of Miami Lakes) mark the opening of Main Street as a major milestone in the history of Miami Lakes as it was the beginning of the development of Town Center. Lester Collins, who was the land planner for Miami Lakes, designed Miami Lakes so that all roads would lead to Main Street. He stressed that a good design should be like nature with free flowing lines—never falling into a set pattern—and Miami Lakes mimics nature all the way down to the nautilus shell road system that starts at the Palmetto Expressway and winds its way to Town Center and Main Street.
Main Streets mix-use development incorporating specialty retail and entertainment uses; residential and office uses above the street level retail space; an integrated hotel with street front entrance; and the overall design theme have all made the center of the Miami Lakes master planned community a success. Main Street has been recognized in many national publications, including both academic writings and business articles.
Today, Main Street is comprised of over 225,000 square feet which includes 17 screen Cobb Theater as well as the Main Street Playhouse, one of the longest running community theaters in South Florida. The stores mix of name brands such as Victoria’s Secret to boutiques like Miami Lakes Jewelers, BLACC, Moda by Pasarela, Peekaboo, and Snow’s Jewelers, will let you find that perfect item for yourself or someone special. Visitors can awaken their taste buds through dining at a variety of restaurants on Main Street, which include Spanish, Italian, Thai, Japanese, American and Mexican cuisines.
A rejuvenation to Main Street is currently underway focusing on bringing a new variety of dining and entertainment choices. With new restaurants opening up such as Salsa Fiesta, 100 Montaditos and LA Sweets as well as with World of Beer set to open in the fall of 2015; Main Street is transforming into the next phase where visitors are falling back in love with its charm.
Main Street is a great place for all ages to enjoy a day or evening out – shop, catch a movie or play, dine, or soak in a cultural experience at one of its many weekend events or festivals. An annual event that occurs on Main Street is the Festival of Lights held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Main Street Festival of Lights is Miami Lakes’ best-known holiday tradition and official kick off to the holiday season; it has become a historical, community tradition in South Florida.
