Tennessee deputy pays it forward

A Monroe County deputy learned the woman in front of him at a drive-thru covered his breakfast bill Tuesday morning. But he couldn't let it slide without a big thank you. “Whoever pulls up behind me, just pay for his breakfast," Angel Brooks told the drive-thru worker. "We've been so blessed with people helping us out." “Being in a small town, I started asking around and found out who she was,” said Deputy Cody Yates of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Yates found Brooks on Facebook. He also found out her husband, Jeff, is battling terminal pancreatic cancer and her daughter Megan has cerebral palsy.

Semi Rolls Backwards, Crashes Into Greenbrier Home

A tow truck driver was arrested and a family was left with a badly damaged home and two damaged cars after a tractor-trailer rolled down a street into a home in Robertson County. The incident happened around 7 a.m. Monday along Elm Hill Court, just off Sycamore Drive in Greenbrier. According to police, the owner of the truck left the semi running unattended while going into his mother’s home. The owner of the truck apparently did not have all of the necessary brakes engaged, and the remaining brakes failed - causing the truck to roll down the street, down a driveway, and into a family’s two cars and the side of their home.

Arrest made in road rage incident where shots were fired and car was hit

A Whitehaven woman is facing charges following an apparent road rage incident where shots fired were fired. Police say Macklin was driving down Winchester near Tchulahoma when she nearly hit another vehicle while trying to change lanes.

Sullivan Sheriff’s Office hosting Camp Take-A-Stand

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is once again hosting Camp Take-A-Stand. The summer camp, which targets the issue of bullying, will be held June 21, 22 and 23 from 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m. at the SCSO Training Center located at 229 Shipley Ferry Road in Blountville. The camp is open to students within the Sullivan County School system who will be entering 3rd, 4th or 5th grade next school year. Our goal is to have a positive impact on students and teach them how to handle a situation where they are being bullied, or one in which they observe someone else being targeted by a bully.

8 in custody after police chase from Lebanon to Nashville

Several people have been detained after a police chase spanning two counties. It all started when a Lebanon police officer spotted four people possibly trying to break into the Lebanon Gun Store around 2 a.m. Tuesday. The suspects saw the officer and started running away. They eventually got into a car and drove off. “I think that we foiled their plans,” said Cpl. PJ Hardy with the Lebanon Police Department. “There was markings on the door that looked like they may have tried, but I think our officer pulled up on them before they could actually make entry."

Police Warn Of Increased Skimming Incidents

Your bank account could be at risk of a crime due to the growing popularity of ATM skimming. The crime is nothing new, but according to FICO, incidents of the crime rose more than 500 percent between 2014 and 2015. "Credit card fraud is the new-age bank robbery," said Sergeant Michael Warren with the Metro Nashville Police Department Fraud Unit. A $36 billion industry worldwide, Metro Police deal with credit card fraud every single day. Recently, skimming has been an increasing problem.

Gun violence continues, man shot on East 3rd Street

Chattanooga Police arrested a suspect from a Tuesday night shooting. Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Kyle Miller says 27-year-old Averoyan Sandridge is responsible for the shooting on the 2500 block of East 3rd Street. Officers say Sandridge shot 22-year-old Diaz Darden in the hand. The victim told investigators he was in the back yard when he heard gunshots and quickly realized he'd been hit by a bullet.

Etowah drug roundup nets more a dozen arrests

A drug round-up months in the making put at least a dozen people behind bars in McMinn County. The Etowah Police Department has been working on the undercover sting for more than a year. By 1 p.m., they had arrested 12 people with hopes of arresting even more by the end of the day. The grand jury handed down the indictments yesterday and officers spent all morning rounding up their criminals. "Here in Etowah, like every community in Tennessee and probably across the United States, there's a big drug problem," Det. Jim Shaw said. "With drug dealers, you think fancy cars and all those things. But really, they don't have a lot of money, they're just selling the dope,"

TBI annual crime study shows overall decrease in reports - WBBJ TV

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Monday released their 2015 “Crime in Tennessee” report. The report reveals an overall decrease in reported instances of crime in 2015, the most recent reporting year. In 2015, more than half a million crimes were reported across the state, which is actually less than previous years. “Of the most serious crimes reported to TBI, it’s actually down 2.1,” said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Public Information Officer Josh DeVine. “So I think when you look at the report it’s actually a bit of encouraging news.”

Suspects Arrested After Downtown Nashville Robbery

Police have arrested two suspects after several women were robbed at gunpoint in downtown Nashville. Officials with Metro Nashville Police said no one was hurt and they were able to make a quick arrest because the victims gave officers a solid suspect description.

Police officer responds to a complaint of kids being too loud, brings tasty reinforcement

When Officer D. Carden got the call about some rowdy kids, he knew what he needed to bring as back up. The officer bought 14 Frostys from Wendy's before responding to the call. "Officer D. Carden responded to a call of kids being too loud while playing outside with 14 Frostys as his back-up."

Officer rescues woman threatening to jump off bridge

She was just moments from ending her life. But a brave police officer wasn’t going to let that happen on his watch. Chattanooga police posted dash cam video on their Facebook page of officer Steven Meador responding to a woman standing on the edge of a bridge Saturday night. The officer tried to have a conversation with the distraught woman but she grew agitated. Moments later, Meador heard the woman cry out “I’m done,” and he lunged out and grabbed the woman by her clothing, pulling her back onto the bridge. The split-second decision saved her life.
