facebook.comToday, Metro Fire was one of seven fire agencies who received a new fire engine from CalOES. As part of the California Master Mutual Aid System, our firefighters are requested to respond to incidents all over the state. In 2015 alone, Metro Firefighters on our OES engines were deployed to 11 California fires, spanning 13 different counties, for a total of 100 days. We are committed to helping our neighbors in need, whether locally or across the state. And don't worry, when our crews get deployed, we backfill their stations, so we continue providing the best service to the communities we serve here at home!

With all the equipment on a fire engine, what do you think captured the attention of the kids at Beanstalk Preschool in North Highlands? The "magic" collapsible traffic cone! Firefighter/Paramedic Brent Le Blanc and the crew of E42 spent some time talking fire safety, showing the kids the fire engine, and helping them get comfortable with firefighting equipment. Preschoolers, just like the rest of us, need to know exactly what to do in case of a fire. After their time with E42, the kids at Beanstalk Preschool are now much more prepared!

Ever wonder how firefighters get patients out of cars following a really bad accident?? Rescue 21 demonstrated exactly how they use their extrication tools to safely and efficiently remove people from those vehicles. Why is it so important? Because every second counts in a life or death situation!

Congratulations to Captain Scotty McKenney, who just retired April 30th! Working at Station 53 in South Sacramento, one of Metro's busiest fire houses, Scotty has interacted with countless people throughout his career. His big smile, contagious laugh, and genuinely caring personality, has made a difference in many, many lives. In addition to running tons of calls and training probationary firefighters, as part of US&R, Captain McKenney was deployed to Oklahoma City, 9/11, Katrina, Northridge, Loma Prieta and more. Best said by his crew: "It is with great appreciation and admiration that your crew presents this plaque to you for your 41 years of selfless, dedicated, and genuine caring service to the community. Your legacy will live on to all those you have inspired." Congratulations and best wishes on the next phase of your life, Captain McKenney! You will definitely be missed!
Metro Fire crews rescued a man stuck about 50 feet above the river on the Bluffs near the Fair Oaks Bridge. Rescue crews set up a rope system from above, lowered a rescuer to the man, and then safely lowered him to Boat 65, waiting below. He was then taken to shore and evaluated for injuries. Fortunately, this man was not injured in his ordeal, but he could have been seriously hurt. Every year, our crews rescue people stuck on steep sections of the Bluffs. Don't try to climb it, it's not worth the risk!

Quick knockdown by Engine 61 this morning saved multiple apartments in Rancho Cordova from fire damage. When crews arrived to a working fire on Moraine Circle, they initiated an aggressive fire attack, containing the fire to just one apartment. Nobody was injured, though the residents of two units (downstairs apartment sustained water damage) were displaced. Our fire crews train regularly to prepare for any situation, so they can quickly save YOUR family and YOUR home!
