Cala's Sketches
Description
Hand Crafted Artwork with paintings by New Orleans local artist Archie C Boyd
Archie Boyd, or "Arch" is an engineer by profession and an Artist by choice. His first efforts were oil paintings of still life and seascapes of the rugged pacific coast. While in Wales, U.K., on a three-year project, he was tutored by a Master Engraver from the West of England College of Art. He applied his new skills to the sketching of the Edwardian castles, churches, and bridges in Wales. On his return to the United States in 1972, he chose New Orleans for his home and has concentrated on sketches of the historic Vieux Carre.
Roofing Slates were mined in Pennsylvania and transported down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers on rafts and became the roofing material after the disastrous fire of 1795.
Cala's Sketches has been producing art on old slates since 1975 and became a unique souvenir from New Orleans.
