Although Meg Wise Blackwell is a “Beargrass Baby” and has been a part of the church family all of her life, we are celebrating her 20th anniversary of serving as a member of the staff on September 1. Meg has used her marvelous musical gifts and teaching abilities to inspire and involve countless children and youth in our music ministries and programs for two decades. She has demonstrated incredible patience and her enthusiasm continues to “rub off” on the members of the choirs. We have been very fortunate to have a person like Meg serving in this role for so many years. Thank you, Meg!

Wednesday Bible Study Reconsidering Ancient Israel Begins September 7 10:30 am and 6:30 pm in Room 202 Dr. John Hull will lead this Bible Study at 10:30 am and 6:30 pm in room 202. In recent years, archaeologists like Israel Finkelstein have challenged us to rethink the early history of Israel. This study will compare the biblical narrative with recent historical reconstructions. Finkelstein argues for a series of independent settlements that only became the Kingdom of Israel at a later period.

Begins September 7 6:30 pm in the Conference Room Grief is a journey that is different for each person forced upon it, yet often there are similar questions, emotions, concerns, and issues that arise. To help grievers know they are not alone, this fall we want to offer a time to gather together to share stories, questions, concerns, thoughts, and feelings. Dr. Susan Lowe and Dr. Joseph Quaye will facilitate this group which will meet at 6:30 pm in the Conference Room. Dr. Quaye is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Seven Counties Services and has been a member of Beargrass for almost 20 years. If you are interested in attending the group or if you have any questions, please contact Susan at 896-1161.

Exploring Islam Sundays at 5:00 pm September 18, 25, Room 202 This study will be led by Dr. Roy Fuller and an Imam from the Louisville Islamic Center. Dr. Fuller teaches World Religions at the University of Louisville and has previously led series at Beargrass, including series on Buddhism (2016) and Islam (2013). Dr. Fuller will provide an overview of Islam and the Imam will give insights from the perspective of one who actively practices the faith tradition.

Wednesday Evening Kicks Off Wednesday, September 7 Our Wednesday evening programming for children, youth and adults will kick off September 7. Programming will be offered through music and Bible studies. Childcare will be available in the ARK wing for children kindergarten age and under. Dr. Leigh Bond has scheduled the next Newcomers Class for Sunday, September 11, 18, and 25, at 10:00 am in the Chapel. The class will also be offered on Wednesday evenings on September 14, 21, and 28, at 6:45 pm in the Chapel. The class offers an informative introduction to the mission and ministries of our church and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The class is recommended for people who are new to the church or considering Beargrass as their church home. Childcare is available for all sessions. JYF (Grades 3-5) Fall Trip Saturday, August 27 By Steven Straub Our JYF Fall trip will be to The Beach Waterpark. Meet at the 5/3 Bank across the street from the church at 8:00 am. (The church parking lot will be packed because of the Farmer's Market.) Please bring a sack lunch and wear your JYF t-shirt. The cost is $20 which covers admission to the waterpark, transportation costs, and dinner on the way home. We will return to church between 8:00 and 8:30 pm that evening, Please RSVP to the church office (896-1161) by Wednesday, August 24, so transportation can be planned accordingly. Let me know if you have any questions. Oldham County Folks: We will plan a pick-up/drop-off somewhere in Oldham County so you don't have to drive all the way in. We are going right up I-71, so it makes sense to stop! Parents: We could use some chaperones. Contact me if you are interested.
