We had quite the charismatic visitor to the wildlife viewing room today. This bobcat took a short nap in the shade of the bird blind by the pond, then ambled off down into the canyon. What a treat for today's visitors to the nature center! It's almost summer break! PEEC has some fun volunteer opportunities available for older teens. An example of some upcoming teen volunteer opportunities include: 1.) Wednesday mornings 9-11am, June June 14-August 9th. We are looking for one or two teen volunteers to help assist our educator with a Forest Explores Hike and Play Club. Our Forest Explorers Hike and Play club provides the opportunity for kids, ages 5 through 8, to go on weekly hikes into the canyon next to the nature center for child-directed play in the creek and surrounding forest. Children will have time to build forts, make seasonal observations, learn to identify different plants and animals, and create their own nature journal. Forest Explorers class, taught by educator Jessie Dixon, allows children to have fun outside while working cooperatively, building gross motor skills, and learning more about the local ecology. 2.) Wednesday nights from 6-8pm, June 7th-28th. We are looking for one or two teen volunteers to help docent our nature center during our summer family evenings. Training is available. Docents welcome guests, answer questions about the nature center, monitor sales in the gift shop and sell tickets for planetarium shows. 3.) Monday mornings from 9:30-11:30, all of July and into August before school starts. We are looking for one or two teen volunteers to help assist our educator during our weekly Nature Playtime program. Each week has a different theme. The educator will welcome local families for fun, hands-on activities, hikes, games, and stories in nature. We are looking for a volunteer to help set up and assist the children during the activities. 4.) Are you interested in gardening? We have ongoing landscaping and gardening projects!
